Using colours when studying helps to retain information.
When you are writing notes try using different colours for each paragraph. For example paragraph 1 could be written in blue then paragraph 2 in black.
When highlighting try using a colour pattern. For example red or orange for things you don't understand. Yellow for things you sort of understand but need to look over and green for things you do understand. This is very effective as when you are flicking through pages the colours will stand out.
