On 15 February 2015, Fannemel set a new world record in ski flying, with the world's longest standing ski jump of 251.5 m in Vikersund. The world record was set until 18 March 2017, when Robert Johansson, also a former student at NTG Lillehammer, set a new world record with 252 m and later beaten by Stefan Kraft with 253.5 m in the same day.
