A cold chill ran up your spine as a crisp breeze entered the room. Opening your eyes, you took notice of the absence of light, meaning the sun had yet to rise.

With a tired sigh you sat up, eyes still half lidded with sleep as you took in your surroundings. Empty sleeping bags littered the old log cabins wood floors, your group members were nowhere in sight, but you could hear their quiet bickering coming from another room.

Knuckling your eyes to rid them of sleep, you stand and walk toward the hushed bickering.

"She should be back by now! Owen why did you leave her out there by herself?!"

"Mel, she's gonna be fine. She can literally take on anything that comes her way."

Their words are faint, but you manage to make out what they're saying.

"She'll be fine, Mel."

Quirking a brow you step into the room. All but one person in your small traveling group was accounted for. The only one missing -who you assumed was who they were fighting about- was Abby.

"What's going on?" you question softly, eyes shifting between Mel and Owen.

The room falls silent and all eyes land on you. Mel and Owen share a glance with the others before speaking up.

"Abby and I found a makeshift town just a few miles from here. She went to go investigate it."

You shake your head at Owen and cross your arms over your chest.

"Why didn't you stop her!? There's a chance they're not friendly, you of all people should know this. We can't just send a group member off and on their own."

Owen shakes his head, an annoyed look etched upon his face as he scowls at you "She's fine! Abby's our best soldier besides you. If you're so keen on making sure she's safe, why don't you just go look for her yourself."

Rolling your eyes you shrug "Fine. I'll go get her back. You guys stay here and keep the place on lockdown. You and I are going to have a little talk later on, Owen."

The brunette scoffs and shakes his head, walking past you and out of the room, but not before bumping shoulders with you.

"Whatever. I don't take crap from children." he muttered.

"I'm literally four years younger than you asshole." you mutter.

With a huff and a shake of the head you follow him out of the room and head towards your backpack, grabbing your weapons, and putting on your winters jacket.

By the time you're dressed and ready to go, the sun had started to peak over the horizon.

"I'm heading out. I'll be back with,Abby, soon."

The others nod and watch as you walk to the front gates of the cabin. Before you step out completely, a hand is placed on your shoulder. Peering to the side, you come face to face with Mel, she wears a worried look on her face as she stares into your eyes.

"I'm sorry for how, Owen's been treating you." she apologizes, looking back to Owen for a split second before turning back to you.
