THE SUMMER OF '86 was a long awaited time-frame for the group of teenagers. Such it seemed until midway through where their own personal lives rapidly began to catch up to each of them. Mickey had scored an internship with MTV, which meant she was spending the rest of her months out in New York. Leaving the friends to plan a trip out to visit sometime soon before Amanda and Jennifer were due to attend the community college in town and Stella off to study at Kent State for a fashion program they were hosting in the fall.
Back home in good 'ol Hill Valley the band was coming together to try and make an album per Harry's inspiring words from R&G records reminding them they were supposed to have been working on it since they first left the trip in Los Angeles. Sitting behind Bobby's drum set trying to show off to the girls she could do a mediocre version of the Moby Dick by Led Zeppelin drum solo, blaming the sound on not practicing it enough despite the fact that it was better than the other drummer in the room could manage to do. On the other side, the boys were sitting around by the rotary phone after having taken up a call from Harry regarding the nominations for the VMA's this year.
A call that was quite honestly leaving them all to be anxious considering the nomination would either open up a new door for them or leave them lagging behind until another opportunity came for them to stun a crowd.
"Alright just give it to us straight, I mean we can handle the rejection," Lee joked for the other members to roll their eyes over his attempts to try and diffuse the tension, "Best to prepare for the worst."
"Lee has a point. . .for once, but I wouldn't jump completely to that just yet," Their manager explained on the other line causing for the boys to simultaneously look over to each other with wide-eyes.
Marty laughed this out in disbelief, pushing back his hair over what was being hinted at. "You don't mean." He gaped his mouth in shock momentarily before finally being able to regain his senses. "We actually got nominated."
The line hung silent after this causing for the band to become nervous over the possibility of this being the news they hardly expected to hear. Although they knew they were just starting out, the nomination sure would certainly help to have them confirm their new-found popularity wasn't all in their head. Eventually Harry let out a breath on the line to continue to leave them hanging at his every word. "You got the nomination."
From their own bubble on the opposite end of the make-shift band space the other half of the group turned away from Amanda at the drum kit and instead at the boys practically shaking themselves unconscious and acting more giddy than they usually were. Stella looked over to the blonde to push her leg with a smile over the running joke within their group. "Alright, do your trick, what's going on?"
"Aw c'mon, isn't it obvious?" She responded and tutted under her breath. "All four of them are so overly emotional, it's not complicated to understand what's going on with them."
Huffing over this Jennifer rolled her eyes over the simplification as the blonde returned back to her kit trying to contain her joy. "She only does the mind reading as party tricks now guys." This sent them into a fit of laughter, eagerly looking ahead to the boys still bundled up close to one another by the rotary phone.
