"Shit."
It was a new chapter for math, and you didn't understand a number.
You glared at the textbook, hoping and praying that you'd get laser eyes to burn the book as an excuse to not study.
Why are we even studying this? Even the Iliad makes more damn sense that this bullshit algebra. When we grow up, no one's going to give two shits about what a - 20 + x is, dammit.
You sighed and your head crashed into the book. "I'm going to die..."
The teacher couldn't care less about this class. It was the best of the level, so he assumed all of you knew what this was.
Basically, he wasn't going to be of any help.
There was a tap on your shoulder.
"What is it, Akaashi?" you asked.
"You look like you've walked through hell. Just checking if you are still alive." He looked at the board and scribbled an equation on his book.
A lightbulb went off in your head.
"Teach me, Akaashi." you blurted out.
"What?" Akaashi turned back to you. "I'm worried now. Are you insane?"
"Akaaashi! Please teach me how to do algebra!" you whisper-shouted.
He froze, then put his pen down. "No."
You rolled your eyes. "You tutor Bokuto all the time for math."
"I don't." He twirled his pen with his fingers. "I actually don't. Third year content is different for technical subjects. It's not like humanities."
"But if Bokuto fails, he will go to the summer camp late..." You decided to pull the Bokuto card on him. "If you tutor him, you won't mind tutoring one more...right? And we're second years."
"Fine. I'll show you why I no longer tutor people in math."

"Akaaaaaaaaashi..." Bokuto was on the verge of tears, lying on the café table. "What does this mean?"
His book literally said:
If x = 2,
What is x - 1?
Bokuto is amazing. I repeat: Bokuto is amazing-
"Bokuto-san."
"Akaaaaaashi..."
"What is 2 - 1?"
"I don't know, three?"
This is too sad to laugh about.
"I am so done with you." Akaashi sipped his tea. "L/n-san, how's it going?"
"I'm done!" You happily gave him your notebook, which he had written sums and filled in the blank questions for you to do as practice.
He took a look at them. "So you're not completely hopeless after all."
You smirked proudly. Then realised something.
"Wait, you thought I was completely hopeless?" You gaped at him.
"You practically begged for me to teach you. What was I supposed to think?" Akaashi finished his cup and stood up. "I'm getting a refill." He walked away, rubbing his temples.
So, you tried to teach Bokuto.
"Bokuto, hold up your hands."
He held up his hands.
"No fingers," you told him. "Put up 2."
He complied.
"That's x. Put down one finger."
So he did.
"You have taken away 1, like in your equation, so the answer is..." You gestured for him to continue.
His eyes went wide with adoration. "L/n-san, thank you! I've finally realised the answer." He scribbled something on his book."
Akaashi came back and nearly dropped the tea. "Bokuto...he's doing...his work?" Akaashi's legs twitched like he was trying to get away but was rooted to the ground.
"L/n helped me!" Bokuto exclaimed.
"Thank you, L/n-san." Akaashi took his seat and looked over Bokuto's shoulder before many indescribable emotions crossed his face.
Poor Akaashi, he looked as if he was about to faint.
You looked at Bokuto's notebook, shoving Akaashi away.
It read:
L/n-san tried teaching me but I can't count my fingers so my answer is:
VOLLEYBALL IS ALWAYS THE ANSWER!
