"I seriously can't believe you had a chance to kiss her and you completely blew it."

I stare, dumbfounded, at one of my best friends from across the kitchen table as he insults me for my lack of confidence no doubt. Remind me again why I came to his place clear across the city?

"Adam! Don't be a prick about it," Evangelina, Adam Michaelson's wife, smacks him on the back of the head playfully, knocking off the Yankee's baseball cap he's wearing.

"Sorry, Angel," he smiles warmly at her while rubbing the back of his crew cut shaved head before putting the hat on backward. It's weird seeing him without his long hair but that's the price you pay for being in the military.

"Look, kid, all I'm saying is you should've taken the shot when you had the chance," he shrugs and shoves the rest of his homemade burrito into his mouth. I will say, Evangelina makes some bomb Mexican food.

"I couldn't. Clyde walked in at that moment and I didn't want Lexie to feel embarrassed about it. Besides, maybe she didn't want to kiss me? I could've been reading it wrong," I grump as I stand from the kitchen chair.

I grab our plates to begin washing them and think about that moment Lexie and I shared. Maybe it's just wishful thinking but I could've sworn by the look in her eyes and the way she was leaning in that she wanted to kiss me. But when she backed away as if I had burned her and gave me a chastise kiss before she nearly bolted out the door, I got the damn message.

"Oh, she definitely wanted to kiss you, man," Adam chuckles but it quickly stops and I look over my shoulder just in time to see Evangelina give him a stern look to shut up.
