Niklaus Mikaelson was facing the dilemma of his life. Everybody knows he doesn't trust anyone easily. Hell! He sometimes, okay most of the times, doesn't even trust his own family. Among Mikaelsons, he is known as the most paranoid person and who can blame him?
Esther, a mother who even after locking his natural form just to remedy her own mistakes still screws him from the other side, Mikael, a supposed father who practically abused him in the name of training is now haunting him to kill him, Finn, the moral brother for whom vampirism is a curse always argue with him regarding his immoral way, Elijah, the 'you have my words' brother is out there to kill him for the crime he haven't done though he said he did but he(E) should have known that he(N) would never do that, Kol, the brother who was taking so much trouble just to make a dagger especially for him in order to put him in some coffin or maybe tomb, and last but not the least, Rebekah, the only sister who would abandon him and 'Always and Forever' promise just to chase some guy in the name of love.
What a happy family!
And now here he is, walking through the forest, trusting these two complete strangers, who might have been send by his enemies to finish him. He knows it's his paranoid self is speaking because he is not getting any vibe of hostility, deception or fear from them. Though in his mind he named his help to them is to get a favour or to make them stay with him, he knows the truth is far from it.
He was able to detect the loneliness and sadness in the girl's voice when she said that they don't have anyone here and who will know about loneliness more than him. And the boy, though he didn't say much, his appearance did it all to intrigue his curiosity. And of course his question regarding phone only pipe his curiosity more.
The boy's appearance reminds him of his younger brother, how he died, how it's his fault that he lost his closest brother. It brings all the painful memories for which he wants to kill him. But again it brings happy memories also. The memories which was hidden so deep that he thought he won't be able to reminisce it anytime soon in his eternal life. The village, the games with his siblings in the forest, how Rebekah used to make them pick flowers, Henrik and Rebekah running to see his and Elijah's hilarious sword fighting, storytelling, his and Henrik's adventures, Henrik's comforting after every episode with Mikael, how Henrik seek comfort after every nightmare by hugging him; all this memories remind him how much he misses his siblings, his brother Henrik, his human life, how he should have cherished all those moments. But it is too late to regret it.
Or is it? Only time will tell.
Although Niklaus Mikaelson was having his own internal battle, his face was set on his trademark smirk making it look like everything was in his control. When Niklaus came out of his thought, he realized that he was so engrossed in his past that he didn't sense the heated argument which is going on between the boy and the girl. 'Listening to them will help me to know more about them and their objective' thinking so Niklaus started giving them his attention.
