"here you go baby enjoy your first day" the office lady handing me my schedule with a smile
she reminded me of my nana so sweet and bubbly. as i was walking out i saw inez making me smile
"goodmorning ms.shirley" she smiled
"goodmorning inez how are you sweetheart?"
"i'm good"
i walked out the office looking at my schedule i was glad all my core classes were back to back so i could get them over with.
"girl when do i ever go to that man's class? never exactly"
"you need too"
"i don't because we don't even do nothing i go for the attendance and then i go to your class"
"hey vante"
"wassup butta" i chuckled
"miss.girl did you forget we was on the phone while you over there talking to yo little boo thang"
"both of y'all kiss my ass" she hung up
"boo thang" i mocked laughing
"akiki so funny" she mugged
"go to class"
"i'm good"
"education is important"
"watching bill nye all class isn't fun so i'll pass"
"bill that nigga"
"bye" she laughed
"go be a scholar"
"yeah yeah" she walked off

"how you like it so far?" my momma asked me
"it's okay" i shrugged
"hmm you like it better than your last school?"
"yeah it's cool or whatever imma sign up for track"
"that's good baby"
i watched her cut pieces of fabric over the facetime call. i was currently in my last class if the day the teacher wasn't here and the substitute wasn't paying attention to us so i facetimed my momma.
"you know who i think would be a good person for you... inez angel's daughter"
"ma no, we just friends"
for now at least
"me and your father were just friends before we got together"
"you don't think that's weird tho?"
"how would it be weird dominique?"
"because that's like my mentor's daughter"
"so.. if angel didn't trust you around her daughter do you think you would even be at that school right now or even be allowed around her?"
"no.." i said
"exactly whether y'all date or not she's a good person to have in your life her and her mother they're good people"

"devante please" butta put her hand in my face chuckling
"i'm serious" i laughed

we were in her room talking about our childhoods. i had just told her about the time i sallowed staples back in the second grade, i still don't know what possessed me to do that.
(i did this back in kindergarten🙈...)
"you were probably the child that was always loud and shit" i said
"no i was actually really quiet like doctors thought i could've been autistic or something"
"did you talk to anyone?"
"my mom and grandparents that's it, my teacher was the one who even brought it up" she shrugged
"you ever worried you're child might be autistic or have a disability?"
"yeah all the time but i'm still going to love them with all my heart their a piece of me"
"i like that most people treat their kids differently if they aren't 'normal"
"true like you made that the kid why would you treat them differently? it doesn't make sense to me"
the conversation went from childhood to our opinions on childbirth and shit. it was one of those things were you could really see how she and i think about these things.
"you wanna play uno?"
i nodded watching her get up to get the cards. she shuffled the quickly before passing out the cards
"how you do it do fast?"
"my uncle taught me how to shuffle cards when i was younger"
after a few quick rounds where we were tied we decided to stop. i looked over her face licking my lips. from her beautiful brownskin to her two toned plump lips inez was definitely a beautiful girl. our eyes connected and i smiled
"what?" she looked away shyly
"you're so pretty" i said honestly watching her blush
"t-thank you" she cheesed
aww i got her stuttering
"butta"
"hmm?"
"you wanna go on a date?" i scratched the back of my neck
she looked at me tilting her head to the side like she was studying me before she nodded.
