"Unlike you, we're not a fucking coward."

- Kim Namjoon, Run -

"Did you know that DNA makes RNA?"

"Here we go again."

Julianto merely pushed his black specs up his nose with his index finger at the sarcastic remark the other made.  "In fact, this RNA makes the protein." He went on, his hands now behind his back as he strode forward with the rest of the group for God knows whatever reasons.

"The synthesis of protein occurs in two sequential steps." He proceeded to educate his fellow members whilst pointing his finger high up into the air in a teaching manner, his spiky black hair stood shinier than usual. It's obvious that he's the one who has been using the conditioner aisle back at camp.

"Transcription and translation. Transcription occurs in the cell nucleus and uses the base sequence of DNA to produce mRNA. The mRNA carries—"

"Shh."

"How dare you shush science—"

As the last word escaped his lips, a glint of silver then flew straight passed his side, landing straight onto a corpse's forehead. Black tangy liquid then started trickling down from where the frontal bone of the skull was punctured, sending it to drop backwards.

"You're a liability." Said the female who threw the knife, "Your words speak faster than your own actions."

"Excuse me, but we can defend ourselves with science."

"Oh yeah?~ Isn't it the curiosity of science that turned the world into shit?"

"Haruna—"

"Not going lie, she has a point."

Two different sides of murmurs were sparked amongst them. Some were uncomfortable with the tension and some were pretending that they're munching on popcorn, watching a drama that's about to go down into a shit.

"Science will provide the answer." Julianto's gaze fell down at his feet, but only to see his belly instead which was in the way. His jaws were clenched while his hands were balled into fists. Determination was evident behind those specs, his belief throughout almost whole of his existence was on the line.

He was the type of person to believe that without ever understanding the-kinda-wonderful-world of science, you would simply grow up to be a porridge seller. Or at least that's what he always said in the author's class but anyways,

3 KOH (aq) + H3PO4 (aq) → 3 H2O (l) + K3PO4 (aq) was his life. White hygroscopic solid in various forms was his guilty pleasure and knowing trivia facts like, "messages from the human brain travel along nerves at up to 200 miles an hour (322 km/h)" was like his own idea of a Saturday night date. No science, no life. A simple family man who would brought up his child with encyclopedia books of salt hydrolysis and buffer solutions.

"Look, I get that it can get a little— distracting, but we all share a common interest.  We all want to survive and come back to the camp in one piece." Namjoon tried to speak as calmly as he could, reassuring everyone back to their senses like the leader he was. "Let's just move on and stay alert. If that one could already sneak up on one of us unnoticed, there could be more coming in our way."

Feeling calmer that they had a leader among them, everyone could just nod their heads as it had only been a few minutes since they arrived outside a housing complex that was on the opposite of several old buildings with narrow alleyways in between. "But what do we do if we run into a horde?" the boy with a snapback on his head asked out, patting his hands onto the pockets of the corpse that laid ever so silently on the ground.

"The only thing we can do." Namjoon rubbed the bridge of his nose, obviously starting to feel the frustration building up at the pit of his stomach due to how utterly confused and disorganized the group was, considering it was their first run. "We figh—"

"We run."

"Excuse me?" Namjoon's gaze fell into the voice of someone he knew far too well, one that reminded him the echoes of past arguments that put the group of people he cherished for years on the edge of a knife. The main star of their previous choice of disbandment, Park Jimin.

"You can't expect us to risk it."

"Jimin, those things don't get tired unlike us! They'll keep coming after you until they rip you to shit!" Phase two of yet another halt, Namjoon was definitely not up for another, let alone arguing over something that had a 50% chance of happening. "Think about it, will you?" He let out a deep sigh, followed by an audible mumble, "You never do."

"So that's how it is, huh?" Jimin scoffed, his arms crossed over his chest while his tongue poked his insides, "I thought we were passed behind this." He walked forward to the man he once called his leader, his brother, his next words were low but enough for Namjoon to hear "I fucking knew you all blamed me for that night. You and Jin-hyung had always underestimated me."

"Unlike you, we're not a fucking coward."

"And I did not regret every-single-fucking—"

"WE GOT COMPANY!" Just a second before Jimin could finish his words, gun shots were fired from one of their direction.

"Fucking idiot." Haruna snatched the gun held by a shaking boy's grip who fired the first missed shot, which undoubtedly rang the dinner bell of a horde not that far from where they all were. Though given the time of the dead dragging their rotten legs, they only had one choice. Run.

"I don't give a shit of what you two are glaring at each other about, but we need to take a detour." Taka hurriedly took out a notebook from his sling bag, gathering the scattered around.  "Pizza boy back at camp gave me a map of shortcuts and other passageways, we'll make it to the station before noon if we all hurry."

"Lead the way, Taka." Kin nodded, followed by the others and off they ran behind a back alley as the sounds of faint growls were right at their tracks.
