I couldnt believe what just happened.
The florpus radiated some kind of sparked energy. It was a strange jolt of electricity with enough force to send me flying. How powerful was that thing?
My hands flailed around faster than ever in search of something, anything, to cling onto. Luckily, I managed to take grip of a steady object. Unfortunately it was a part of the enormous ship I was panicking over earlier.
I was attached to, what appeared to be, a side storage pod. Though the issue I had wasnt really my focus on the ship currently. Right now I was more focused on breathing.
I remembered something I read one time. You shouldn't hold your breath in space. Instead, you should very slowly exhale. I did so, frantically searching for anywhere with oxygen. I climbed from the side pod towards the top of the large ship, desperately praying I wont pass out and die here.
Once I reached the top, I scanned all over any visible areas of the ship. I did so until my eyes stopped on an entrance point. It was either Aliens or death.
I climbed towards the hatch, spinning the wheel and fighting against the anti-gravity pulling me up. It was almost like a submarine in this sense. The wheel was spinning faster and faster and I was running out of breath.
Spin
Come on!
Spin
Almost there!
Spin, click
Got it!
I swiftly swing it open before climbing, and almost falling, down. Once I had done so and shut the hatch, I collapsed.
I slumped against a wall, taking breaths of relief and exhaustion. Thank goodness I found that hatch, or I'd be dead. I took a glance around.
It seemed I was in a hallway, the walls being a pale red colour whilst the floor was white and shiny. Hard to tell what it was made of though. The hallway was large and contained many doors. Though it was easy to decipher that the end door would lead into a bigger area of the vessel.
I didnt like the idea of being stranded on an alien ship, but I would certainly die outside. Maybe I could convince these aliens not to kill me. Or maybe I could trick them in hopes that they're dumb, but that's unlikely. They have advanced technology, of course they're smart.
(Pfft arent you in for suprise😂)
I couldnt just sit here and wait for an alien to catch me. I had to come up with a plan. Maybe it would be better to hide out until I can find a way back to earth. If I find a good place to hide, maybe I wont even have to be confronted by the extraterrestrials at all.
This idea felt much less realistic but was far more comforting. Perhaps I could "borrow" an escape pod? Those existed right? It was hard to say. The apocalypse movies were wrong so maybe the alien ones were too....ugh. that means this wont be cliche at all. I guess I wont be meeting green aliens with big eyes or Antennae. What a shame.
That's when a creature of that exact description entered the hallway.
They wore a dark purple tunic, black leggings, boots and gloves as well as a headpiece. His skin was a faded green colour and his eyes were bug like and a bright silver-blue. His Antennae were short and thin though the ends were significantly longer. He was gripping onto a pen and clipboard, jotting notes down.
Then he looked up.
We froze upon seeing eachother. I put my hands up in mock surrender.
"I- uh...come in peace?" I said, slowly making a wave motion with my hand. The, surprisingly small, being dropped his clipboard in shock before running toward the door.
He stopped next to it before flicking up a compartment and was about to push a button before I yelled to stop him.
"WAIT!" I yelled out of impulse. The alien hesitated to stop though he did freeze. His hand didn't move away.
"I'm not here because I want to be," I continued "i just got a little stranded and couldnt find a way back on my planet. I wouldnt be here for any other reason."
I hoped my explanation worked. I hoped they at least understood English.
The aliens hand lowered before they closed the compartment and slowly walked in my direction. Stopping a good distance away. He was staring at the floor.
I followed his gaze, looking down at my feet, only to see the fallen clipboard and pen. I reached down and picked them up before walking towards the nervous alien. He eyed me with caution.
"Thank you for not alerting the entire ship. I'm sorry I scared you" I said, hoping they would ease up a little, offering their clipboard and pen.
They appeared to be suprised. Looking from me to the supplies in my hand. He finally grabbed them.
"No problem.." he replied. It was fast. Quick. So speedy that I barely caught it.
I smiled at him, once again triggering a suprised expression from him. He seemed to relax a little. I tried breaking the ice.
"My names y/n, what's yours?" I asked slowly. Debating on whether or not to hold my hand out. I decided against it.
"....I'm.." they mumbled. I didnt catch the name.
"I'm sorry, what was that?" I asked, shuffling closer to the shy alien.
"I....my name is....Scant..." he spoke a little louder, looking away in shame.
"....oh.." I replied. He didnt make eye contact and stared at the floor. I couldnt blame him. How was I supposed to reply? It's not like I can say it's a great name. Its meaning is rather discouraging. How could someone be named that?
Scant means insufficient or inadequate. Scants' name practically puts him down everytime he uses it. No wonder hes so shy. Hell, he probably gets mocked for it.
"You know what? How about I call you a different name?" I suggested, already uncomfortable with calling this insecure alien Scant. He looked up, once again, face morphing into one of disbelief.
He gave a tiny smile, the first I had seen him produce, and nodded.
I could only smile back as my face contorted into a thoughtful one.
"What kind of name do you want?" I asked, thinking of any words and names with positive definitions.
"...Something unique but....I also want it to describe me as i want to be seen..." he confessed, thinking.
"How would you like to be seen?" I questioned, leaning closer in curiosity.
"....as someone whose not a scant...." he replied, honestly. My heart practically shattered. And just when I thought this adorable alien couldnt get any sweeter.
It took a moment but I finally came up with the name he described.
"I think I know what your name could be." I mused. He leaned in, hope sparkling in his eyes.
"I think you name should be Spunk." I claimed proudly. He tilted his head in confusion. "It means showing determined courage in the face of difficulties." I smiled.
He smiled fully this time. "You really think that about me?"
"Of course! You showed outstanding courage when you first saw me. You knew what to do in the case of an intruder. I wouldnt be able to do that! Are you a soldier or something?" I encouraged.
He smiled further, hugging the clipboard to hes chest joyfully. He looked rather bashful now. I giggled.
"Pilot actually. Thank you, y/n" he replied.
"Dont mention it, Spunk"
I hope all the aliens on this ship are like him.
