Spock, by no means, was an easy person to love. He was point blank, straightforward, and often rather cold. Though, such things had dissipated over the course of your relationship, a venture that had gone on the better part of 6 months. Spock had shown you such love and care that you couldn't envisage yourself or your future in his absence.
Those three words had yet to be said, however. You knew emotions weren't Spock's best asset, and you were aware he had times when he struggled to express himself in such a way. That didn't stop a small part of you from wanting to hear those words from him. You had already told him you loved him, though you informed him that he didn't have to rush in saying such a thing back, aware of how much he would ponder it (and it would grate on him a lot.)
You awoke one morning for your shift, in rather a good mood; such rarities were to be savoured, given you were far from what could be deemed, 'a morning person.' Spock had often woken before you and left you be, instead choosing to return later on if you did need waking, knowing just how moody you could get. Stretching, you got dressed and grabbed something to eat before heading out to start the day. A spring in your step and a smile on your face, you wound through the halls towards engineering. The good mood didn't last long, though.
Before you'd even been on the clock an hour, your mood had dropped significantly and you were about ready to nap for three straight years. Everything that could go wrong, had. You couldn't quite get what you needed to do, and it was frustrating you beyond measure. Despite Scotty's best attempts at helping you (and calming you), it was useless; by the end of the shift, you were done. Completely and utterly done.
Reaching your quarters, you were greeted by Spock, who was already inside. Your head was so low that had he not have spoken, you wouldn't have noticed he was there at all.
"Good evening, Y/N. I hope your day went well." His voice was as stoic as ever, though you could tell by the tone that there was an underlying concern and softness, something that had taken a while for you to notice.
"It was awful, Spock," you began, voice low and quiet for fear of you crying in front of him. "I've had the worst day in a while."
Raising an eyebrow, Spock stood from your couch and walked to you, taking one of your hands in his and pulling you to him with the other. Instinctively, you wrapped your arms around his waist and finally began to cry. Spock said nothing, but kept a hold on you, knowing you needed to let it out. Silence fell over you both, and slowly he began to run his hand through your hair to calm you.
Feeling cried out and a lot better, you buried your face into Spock's chest as his arms came around you completely.
"Thank you," your voice was barely above a whisper. "You're the best, Spock."
"I will admit, I am not the greatest fan of when you are sad, ashayam" Spock's voice was filled with mischief, and you looked up at him and chuckled. Little bits of humour and sass from him never failed to make you smile.
"I love you, Spock."
"And I love you, Y/N."
Pulling away ever so slightly, your eyes widened as you stared at him. Blinking, you weren't entirely sure you had heard him correctly. If the room wasn't silent enough to hear a pin drop, you'd have blamed the noise. The last thing you had expected was Spock to say he loved you, usually he said something sweet in its place. Your heart fluttered, and he smiled down at you. A faint smile, but it was there nonetheless.
"Spock.." You were beaming at this point, and Spock took the chance to kiss you, your lips coming together softly.
"Perhaps we should get you fed and relaxed, I would prefer you alive, Y/N" Spock shot you a signature smirk, the one he always did when he had a clever quip to shoot at somebody. You couldn't help the feeling of warmth that burrowed within you at him.
"You've been spending too much time with Jim, his sarcasm is wearing off on you." You laughed and hit his arm playfully, to which the Vulcan simply raised both brows and shrugged.
The night was filled with cuddling and small talk, and Spock did everything in his power to make sure you were comfortable and relaxed. Never had you felt more loved, and as you slept that night, all that was running round your mind was Spock's words.
'I love you.'
And he did.
