Mel's POV
I sat in my living room and tried to concentrate on my book, but it didn't really work out. I had to think about the situation with Lia all the time. The last few days we wrote a lot and it felt like it did before all this, but I hadn't met with her yet. Somehow I was afraid that I would again miss a signal. But actually I missed her. I just missed spending time with her casually...
Sighing I closed my book and took out my phone. I hesitated for a moment, but then I dialed Lia's number and waited a little while.
"Mel...I didn't expect that...", she admitted quietly.
"Hey, yeah...somehow I think all the time that I miss our friendship...", I explained insecurely and heard Lia sitting up.
"You miss me...?", she whispered and I sighed.
"As a friend...our friendship...", I explained and she sighed softly.
"Sorry... I wasn't thinking..."
"It's okay. I just wanted to ask you if you'd like to go out for dinner."
"Sure. Around 6 at the restaurant in your street?"
"Yeah. See you then."
"Okay, good. See you later."
Then we both hung up.
........
I sat in the restaurant and was focused on my phone. It was just before 6 pm and Lia was supposed to show up here any moment, but I was just so nervous that I left home way too early and had to wait now. Actually I did not understand why I was so nervous. Probably because I was afraid that it would be weird. But I wanted nothing more than to get back the friendship between Lia and me. Simply that everything would be like it was before...
"Hey...have you been waiting for long?", Lia's voice ripped me out of my thoughts. I stood up and hugged her.
After the hug we sat down again and the waitress came to take our orders.
"Can...can we just try to forget? Just be normal friends...?", Lia asked and I saw how insecure she was. Then I nodded slightly.
"How was your winter break?", I asked and Lia smiled slightly. Then she told me about the visit to her family, her Christmas and New Year's Eve. I listened to her curiously. I had really missed this looseness between us.
"And how was your Christmas time? How was it at home?"
"Fine. I've finally been able to see my brother again," I told her and noticed that Lia was hesitating.
"And how was it with your family and Jill?"
"Do you really want to talk about her... If it hurts too much, we'd better not talk about it..."
"No, no...she is your girlfriend and an important part of your life. We would have talked about it before too," she said more quietly and poked around in her food.
"Yes, she is an important part, but it's no use if it makes you feel worse," I murmured and Lia smiled at me slightly.
"We have been able to talk about everything...and I would like to be able to do that again. It will hurt to hear how happy you are with her, but it is great to hear that you are happy."
"Well...", I gave in and ate another bite.
"My family likes her and they think she's good for me. Especially David really likes her"
