Itachi soon found he had a lot of classes with Shisui. Almost every single class he chose to sit next to Itachi. Every class except for English – which Shisui had with a different teacher.
Itachi didn't pay too much attention to it. He had no doubt that Shisui would eventually grow tired of him.
After analysing a poem and giving the teacher his answers neatly written on a page, Itachi made his way to the cafeteria.
He wasn't hungry that day, so on his way to his table he pulled out his flask of tea – with nine sugars in it. He was too preoccupied with retrieving the flask from of his bag that he didn't notice someone was sitting at his table.
With flask in hand Itachi stopped a few feet away from his table in slight shock.
Shisui sat there, smiling at Itachi. It had been three days since Itachi showed Shisui around.
Itachi gathered himself and calmly sat down at his table.
"Hi", Shisui said cheerfully.
"Hello", Itachi said in stoic kindness.
Itachi opened his flask, poured some tea and gazed out the windows – admiring the rain. It was a soft pitter-patter that could be heard in the cafeteria – if one focussed hard enough to hear it.
"So...do you like the rain?" Shisui asked.
Itachi found the question odd but answered anyway, "I do", he then took another sip of his tea.
It was quiet after that and Itachi cast a look at Shisui – who was blatantly staring at him. Itachi then realised that Shisui must be waiting for the same question.
"Do you like the rain?" Itachi asked Shisui – trying to sound polite, although it came out disinterested.
Shisui smiled that closed-eyed smile of his, "I prefer sunshine, but rain can be beautiful sometimes."
Itachi took that as his cue to continue staring at the gray clouds rolling over each other. He felt Shisui's eyes on him again and tried to ignore it. After a few minutes, Itachi looked at the staring Shisui.
"Why are you staring at me?"
"You don't talk much, do you?" Shisui deflected.
Itachi thought for a moment, "No, I suppose I don't."
Shisui grinned again, "That's okay. You're shy, I get it."
Once again, Itachi thought about Shisui's words. "I don't think I'm shy. I suppose there just isn't much to talk about."
Shisui simply looked at Itachi, "What are your interests?"
"Why do you want to know?" Itachi asked in confusion.
"Because I want to be your friend, and I want to know what you like to do", Shisui smiled again.
Itachi mulled over his words, slightly shocked – yet again – by this strange boy. "I like reading", he eventually answered.
"That's cool, what's your favourite genre?" Shisui asked excitedly – true to his nature.
"Genre? I suppose scholarly books, such as encyclopaedias."
This made Shisui gawk at small Itachi, "I was expecting something like fiction or action – even fantasy!"
Itachi slightly tilted his head curiosity, "Are those your favourite genres?"
Shisui had a small smile etched on his lips, "You caught me, action is my favourite."
Itachi hummed in response and took another sip of his tea, turning to look out the window again.
"Do you have any other interests?" Shisui asked after a moment of silence.
Itachi responded naturally, "I like spending time with my younger brother", he didn't take his eyes off the clouds.
"I like spending time with my little sister, Rinorah – so I understand. What's your brother's name?"
It was at this point that Itachi turned to look at Shisui again, "His name is Sasuke...Why do you want to be my friend?" Itachi asked. He didn't understand Shisui's relentlessness. The others just gave up – why won't Shisui?
"Because you're interesting", Shisui smiled his closed-eyed smile.
Now Itachi was utterly confused, no one had ever called him interesting before. They had called him boring – someone who one doesn't spend a lot of time talking to.
Itachi didn't know what to say, so he kept quiet and took another sip of his tea.
I love my brother, Itachi thought, that's love.
"So what class do you have next?" Shisui asked,
"Mathematics", Itachi replied instantly.
"We have that class together."
"I know", he replied – still looking at the grey clouds.
Shisui's carefree presence faltered, ever so slightly. But Itachi noticed.
"Shisui!" A call sounded from across the cafeteria.
It was Konan, waving erratically at Shisui.
"Konan wants to talk to you again", Itachi said – returning his gaze to the clouds.
There was silence. No one moved. Itachi focussed on the clouds and Shisui focussed on Itachi – the latter having no idea.
"I'll see you in math", Shisui said kindly and, eventually, walked over to Konan.

School had been dismissed. Itachi stood by his locker, packing his books away – keeping those that he would need for homework with him. He was ahead with his work, but liked to stay ahead. He made sure all his books were in place – and discovered his notebook wasn't in his bag.
Itachi furrowed his eyebrows slightly, he looked again. He was certain he put it in his bag when class was over.
"You forgot this", a deep voice said behind him. He recognised the voice as Shisui's.
Itachi turned around and saw his notebook being held by a large, tan hand.
He raised his head slightly to look Shisui in the eye, "Thank you, I must've forgotten it in class. Sorry to be a burden." He then took the notebook and placed it gently in his bag.
"It's no problem at all! Do you mind if I walk with you?" Shisui asked – Itachi thought he looked slightly nervous.
"What do you mean?" Itachi asked – tilting his head in confusion.
"Well, we live across the street from each other..." Shisui said hesitantly, never breaking eye contact.
Itachi looked distant as he tried to remember who lived across the street from him, "We do?"
Shisui simply nodded his head.
Itachi thought about it for a moment, "Sure", he said and proceeded to walk to the exit of the school.
Shisui walking beside him.
