This story is one that was developed over the last ten years of hiking through the volcanic interior of Iceland with my university students. I want to give thanks to all of the students who have inspired, motivated, or imagined part of this story; especially Mel, Lauren, and Luke. I also want to thank the students of the 2019 expedition who encouraged me to tell parts of the story each night and ultimately inspired me to complete the written novel.
