Chapter 4

It's only been a week that Sonakshi started her fashion line but she instantly hit the crowd and people are loving her designs, she just got busy right away that she didn't even get the time to talk to Dev properly after that. Dev didn't want to disturb her, he was just happy thinking that atleast he and Sonakshi are friends and he can atleast call her talk to her even if it's for few minutes only but still it felt good. Another week passed but still they didn't get to spend anytime together.
One day he was preparing to go to sleep and his dad came to his room
D:: Papa!! Everything okay?
Sanjay:: Yea Yea I am fine.. you tell me?
D:: I'm fine too
Sanjay:: how's Sonakshi?
D:: she is fine too but very busy, we hardly got any chance to spend any time together
Sanjay:: then what are you waiting for?
D:: Papa she just opened her business and I don't want to disturb her
Sanjay:: beta I'm not asking You to disturb her rather be with her... you know when I was young I joined family business but your mom was going to college in her final year she got busy so I made sure that I dropped her to college and then in the evening dropped her home that too we had to hide from our parents.
D:: what? You did all that?
Sanjay:: yes it was not easy. But in your case atleast you don't have to hide. I think you can atleast drop her home or pick her up and those few minutes can be precious. I mean while dropping her home just get her some coffee or something and spend some time
D:: wow papa!!! Why didn't I think of all this
Sanjay:: that's because I'm your papa
D:: thank you papa you are the best....
Dev text:: hey Sonakshi, what you doing
Sona text:: nothing much just about to go to sleep
D:: Can I pick you up in the morning we can have coffee and then I'll drop you to work
S:: Yea sure then I'll see you tomorrow 9:30 ok? Goodnight
D:: yes sure, good night
Next day Dev went to pick up Sonakshi in the morning and as usual she was wearing a simple yellow color dress with just very light makeup she was looking fresh.
S:: good morning Dev (she said it with a big smile)
D:: you are glowing
S:: Sorry!!
D:: no I mean good morning ... so you want some coffee?
S:: Yea sure
Dev stopped in front of Starbucks and picked up coffee and bagels 🥯
S:: hmm bagels thanks.. I actually didn't have breakfast
D:: really why?
S:: I woke up late and I was rushing
D:: you could just text me
S:: if I did then you wouldn't be bringing me bagel now
D:: actually I would Coz even I didn't have breakfast
They both laughed and enjoyed their bagel and coffee and Dev dropped her to work
D:: sonakshi is it okay I pick you up in the evening
Sonakshi smiled and nodded but later that day somehow Sonakshi was very restless, normally it's Dev who always gets anxious and restless but today it was her, she just wanted the day to pass faster because she wanted to see Dev. There was something that was making her want to meet Dev, some kind of pull that she was feeling today, she just couldn't concentrate on anything. She texted Dev asking him what time he will come but he was in a meeting and don't reply to her for next one hour. Sonakshi regretted texting him she thought may be she shouldn't have texted him, she felt bad that he didn't even check her text. Right when she was feeling that may be she was disturbing Dev he called her
S:: hello
D:: hello Sonakshi! I'm so sorry I didn't see your text I was in a meeting and I forgot my phone in my office and when I came back I saw your text and I called right away. I'm very sorry I hope you are not angry (he said everything in one breath)
S:: Dev Dev Dev !!! It's okay you don't have to be sorry I understand
D:: no it's my mistake next time I'll text you before I go anywhere so you know about my where about and then you don't even have to wait. But this doesn't mean you are accountable to me, you don't have to tell me or give me your schedule.
S:: Dev it's... no...
D:: Sonakshi if I'm doing something doesn't mean I expect the same from you, I'm doing it because I want to and I want you to do what you feel like doing not because I am doing it that's why you should do it. In a relation when something is forced that means it's not from your heart and later on the moment you get a chance you stop doing it but for the other person it comes as a shock because he or she expects you to behave in a certain way because he or she doesn't know that it was never you. That's why Ms. Sonakshi Sharma I want you to do what you feel like doing just the way you felt like texting me and you did.
S:: okay okay okay I understood Dev... I didn't know you could talk so much I thought you were the shy guy who only listened.
D:: oh I'm sorry
Sonakshi laughed as Dev sounded so cute
S:: Dev you know you are very cute
D:: Yea I know
S:: what?
D:: you told me right?
S:: right!! Okay what time are you coming?
D:: if you want I'll come now
S:: nooooo come when you are done
D:: okay I just need to finish few paper work I'll be there in an hour
S:: oh great because I have a client coming like in ten minutes and it won't take long.
Dev just ordered pizza as he plans to pick it up before going to pick up sonakshi, When Dev reached her boutique Sonakshi was still discussing designs with her client. The girl who works in the boutique came and Dev told her he will wait in the waiting lounge. Sonakshi saw Dev through her glass door but he made a gesture to show he is fine not to worry. Dev sat and started checking emails on his phone and Sonakshi kept on looking at him, Dev didn't look bothered at all that he was sitting and waiting his face always had that peaceful look that he is fine he is unmoved by any situation he is at peace and that attitude was attracting Sonakshi. After 15 minutes she was done discussing designs with her client and after they left she came to Dev.
S:: hey Dev sorry didn't think it will take so long
D:: no worries these things take time. But guess what our pizza got little cold but it's still warm enough
S:: wow pizza?! Guess what I was so hungry... how did you know I'm hungry?
D:: hmmm i kinda figured you will be hungry coz I was hungry (he flashed a big smile)
They sat in her office and had the pizza Dev also shared pizza with the girl who works there. After they finished eating Dev very politely asked
D:: Sonakshi are you very tired
S:: not really. Why?
D:: I was wondering if you would like to go to a place I often go when I'm feeling low or I want to be alone, it's actually not far but people don't go there
S:: yes...
D:: yes?
S:: yes I would love to go
D:: thanks
S:: thank you
D:: why?
S:: because you felt you could show your secret place to me
Dev just smiled and they left. Dev even picked up some coffee on their way and in just half an hour they reached a place where there was a creek and it was a secluded place in the middle of the city which people hardly knew about it.
S:: wow Dev this is beautiful. How did you find out about this place?
D:: this was long back I was driving and my car broke down and I happened to see this place. My family knows about this place but nobody comes here
S:: wow this is awesome and the best part is it's so close to the city but still so quiet and look at the sky you can actually sit and count the stars
D:: Yea I would often come here and I felt peace. Ofcourse the creek is filled with my tears though but I'm hoping now I can fill this place with laughter
He looked at her and she looked at him with a hopeful smile. He took out two portable chairs from the back of his car saying that he keeps them in the car all the time.
S:: so tell me what happened after the prom I never saw you after that
D:: after that I left for America finished my masters and then I was working there and I was trying to look for myself
S:: so did you find yourself?
D:: I don't know if I found myself or not but yes life did change I changed, I became confident of what I am and became comfortable in my own skin. Now I don't get scared of what people will say or think. Before I didn't know how to be an introvert and still be accepted and yes I also put on some weight (he said it with a big smile)
S:: hmmm interesting... did you have girlfriends?
D:: (feeling lil shy) actually yes but they were never serious
S:: oh that means you had quite a few?
D:: Hahahahah yes quite a few and the best part is we are still friends non of them hates me instead they prefer being my friend I've never hurt anyone I've always been loyal but I somehow couldn't make the emotional bond but I did everything that a boy friend does but somehow nothing worked and then last time when I came I found out about you then somehow I just didn't feel like being there anymore and I came back and then again you came in front of me.
S:: so I came in front of you and you thought you wanted to marry me?
D:: it wasn't the way you are thinking. I don't know if I will ever be able to explain how I always felt for you. I always thought about you and I don't know why. You always came across my mind, I don't know why I made you my imaginary friend who was always there for me who cheered me who gave me confidence who listened to me. Some how I would always think what would you do or say if you were really here with me. Now don't ask me why okay I can't explain
S:: ok I won't ask you to explain I guess I'll have to figure it out myself
D:: infact you will also have to help me figure out how to find myself
S:: what?
D:: mmmh!! That's the reason I came back to find myself.... will you help me find myself?
S:: I can help... but Dev thank you
D:: thank you for what?
S:: for being you.... and also for letting me being me
They talked about a lot of things that evening as it was getting late Dev said I rather take you back home before your brother punches me again.
As Dev was putting the chairs back in the car Sonakshi stood close to the water she was feeling something on her foot at first she didn't bother much  but then when she looked down she saw a big fat frog sitting nicely on her foot. She screamed so loud seeing that and jumped scaring the poor frog
D:: Sonakshi!! Sona!!! What happened? What's wrong
Sonakshi ran and hugged Dev, he just didn't know how to react he didn't remember to breathe. All he remembered was that Sonakshi was hugging him. After a minute Sonakshi looked at him
S:: oh my God I'm safe
D:: what? Safe? What happened?
S:: what happened you are asking me?
Dev was lost poor guy didn't know what to say
S:: Dev a giant big fat frog was sitting on my foot. You should be happy that I didn't have heart attack
D:: a frog? You screamed so loud and got scared of a frog?
S:: excuse me it was big and it was on my foot
D:: that poor frog you scared that lil thing. Who knows if you kissed it may be it would turn into your Prince Charming
S:: that's right it would've given you a good competition
D:: hey!! You are comparing me with that dumb frog
S:: I thought you said poor frog who could've turned into my Prince Charming
D:: you know you are mean I'm not talking to you anymore
S:: hahahahaha oh common Dev she took lil water from the creek and splashed it on Dev
D:: did you seriously do that?
S:: I thought you were not talking to me
D:: Now I'm really not talking to you Sona..... I mean Sonakshi
S:: Dev would you talk to me if I let you call me Sona
Dev looked at her with his twinkling eyes
S:: you can call me Sona, people who are close to me calls me Sona
D:: so am I close to you?
S:: I think we should go home before my brother punches you
Dev just nodded and walked towards the car, they listened to some nice music in the car and he dropped her home.
Next few weeks they continued their drives and their relationship was getting more friendlier, the families were also getting close and they were happy with the growing relationship.
During that time Dev's mom's friend came to India from Canada she came to their house with her daughter Suzanne for 10 days. Suzanne was a pretty looking girl almost Sona's age and her mother was also looking for a groom. Dev got little busy as they were visiting India after a long time he was taking them around like a good host so he wasn't able to give a lot of time to Sona and that made her little sad. Then on the weekend Dev invited Sona and her family to join them for picnic in their farm house. Atlast Sona was happy that she will get to spend some time with Dev after the whole week but least did she know that she will have to meet a new problem in her life. Dev had no clue what Suzanne was thinking and what her mother thought of his hospitality , he and his family didn't understand what they were making out of their hospitality but they were just doing what generally good hosts do.
Saturday morning Dev and his family went to Sona's place so that they could follow them to the farm house, Sona was all excited for the drive but then she saw Suzanne already sitting in the front seat. Dev asked her to sit with them but Sona said she will sit with Neha Di and play with her kid. Dev was little upset as he didn't understand why Sona wouldn't sit in his car. After they reached their farm house everyone was having fun but Sona was not, everytime she tried talking to Dev she was interrupted by this girl, she was getting to close to Dev and that didn't make Sona comfortable and she was getting more upset that nobody found it abnormal for that girl to be so close to Dev all the time. Even Dev was enjoying her company and wasn't giving time to her, she felt left out she was very sad. The day passed later in the evening as Suzanne was talking to her mom Sona heard their conversation and heard that Suzanne really likes Dev and she feels he likes her too and her mom should talk to Dev's parents. After hearing that conversation Sona was heart broken and she just walked towards the pond which was quarter mile far from the farm house and sadly no one realized that Sona was not even with them. They all sat together planning to play Antakshari that's when Arjun asked where is Sona? Dev said she wasn't with him as he thought she was with Neha di and the baby
Dev said he will go look for her as he realized she was not with anyone and last time when Sona wanted to say something to him Suzanne came and pulled him by his hand to play badminton 🏸 and after that he didn't see Sona. As he started walking Suzanne also said she will go with him and look for Sona...
as they were walking and it was getting dark Suzanne was trying to keep up with Dev as they came close to the pond Sona could hear them so she kinda hid behind a tree because she didn't want them to see her Dev was trying to call Sona but he didn't know that last time when Sona wanted to talk she actually wanted to ask if he had a charger as her phone was dying.
Suzanne:: Dev why are you getting so worked up we will find her
D:: I know we will find her but I don't know why her phone is off and I hope she didn't go too far as it gets really dark here and I don't want her to be lost
Suzanne:: she is not a little kid I'm sure she can find her way home.. 
When Dev wasn't listening to her she pretended to fall and Dev saved her from falling
D:: Suzanne please be careful, you should've stay back there.
Suzanne:: oh Dev thank God you were here I think I sprained my ankle... ouch I can't walk
D:: Suzanne why don't you sit here and let me look around I'm sure I'll find Sonakshi then we can all go together
Suzanne:: no Dev I'm not going to sit here alone. I'm scared
Dev had no choice but to carry her and take her back and when the family saw him carrying Suzanne they all came running to find out what happened, he put her down saying she must've sprained her ankle and after two minutes Sona came and everyone thought Dev found her.
Seema:: oh Good Dev found Sona too
(Dev turned around and saw Sona he was shocked as he actually didn't find her and Sona didn't even say that he didn't find her and before Dev could say anything Suzanne started screaming for no reason)
Arjun:: Sona where did you go and why is your phone off
S:: my phone died and I went to the pond
Arjun:: why didn't you ask Dev for his charger I used his charger in the afternoon
S:: I was going to but.... never mind....
D:: Sona, why didn't you say you needed the charger and if you were going towards the pond you could atleast tell me. We were worried about you.
S:: I thought you said you will never ask me about my where about
D:: Sona you know I didn't mean it that way. What's wrong Sona? Were you crying?
S:: why would I cry I'm not the one who sprained my ankle
D:: if you were there near the Pond how come I didn't see you?
S:: May be you were busy attending to someone else that you didn't see me, just the way you didn't hear me when I asked for the charger.
D:: Sona...
S:: Dev I'm not a little girl that I'll be lost or something I can find my way. Why don't you go attend your guest it seems like she needs you to help her being carried around
D:: Sona what's wrong why are you talking to me like this?
S:: how am I talking? What did I say?
D:: why are you ignoring me?
S:: excuse me? I am ignoring you? Last one week you didn't even have time to see me. In the morning you didn't even want me to sit with you then whole day everytime I tried talking to you what did you do? You were running after your new girlfriend
D:: what? Are you crazy?
S:: I'm not crazy, she feels you really like her and her mother will talk to your parents about her
D:: Sona that's not true
S:: what do you mean that's not true I heard their conversation myself
D:: Sona please
S:: don't call me Sona, my name is Sonakshi and you can go to your girlfriend
As she started walking she tripped and Dev grabbed her arm before she fell but Sona yanked his hand
S:: I don't need your help neither I need anyone to carry me
Suzanne:: Dev come here we are starting Antakshari, common what are you doing there
Sonakshi gave him an angry glare and walked away Dev stood there wondering why is Sona so angry. Neha saw Sona walking away but she stopped her and asked her to join them to play Antakshari
All this time Tina(Sona's sis in law) was watching Sona get upset but she understood that Sona was angry because Sona has feelings for Dev and poor Dev has no clue about it that's why he is shocked to see Sona behave like this. Sona is getting jealous and Dev just didn't understand that.
Tina:: Dev you okay?
D:: hmmm (he gave a tight lipped smile but his eyes looked very sad as if the tear duct is about to burst)
Tina:: Something happened between you and Sona
D:: I don't know bhabi I really can't understand why is she upset with me. What is she saying things about me and Suzanne? Bhabi she told me not to call her Sona ( the moment he said that suddenly the tears just rolled down his cheeks)
Tina:: awwww Dev...!!! Stop crying!! You should be happy that Sona is jealous
D:: jealous? But why? She knows what I feel for her and what she means to me. Why would she feel jealous she doesn't even love me?
Tina:: you boys take so much time to understand things. Buddhuu she loves you, it's just that even she doesn't know she loves you. But she is hurt because she feels you are giving Suzanne more attention than her and now that she knows Suzanne's intentions she is hurt and she thinks you are interested too
D:: Bhabi you know that's not true, you know Sona means everything to me and I really had no clue what Suzanne was thinking
Tina:: Dev I know that but now Sona feels neglected, did anything happen when you went to find her?
D:: Bhabi we didn't even find her we were there near the pond but we didn't see her and I don't know how she heard my conversation with Suzanne and how she saw me carrying her here and I don't know why she didn't say anything if she could hear us
Tina face palmed herself
Tina:: now I know what happened, you were busy hosting your guests and you couldn't make time for Sona and in the morning Suzanne was sitting in front seat with you but Sona was waiting to be with you in the car as she told me yesterday that she wants to sit with you in the car and then here she didn't get to spend time with you on top of that she heard Suzanne's conversation so she got upset
D:: is that the reason she was hiding from me? Bhabi what do I do now
Tina:: Dev go to her talk to her
D:: but she is not even ready to listen
Tina:: lets see what I can do, I just don't want her to feel that I'm also supporting you and not her.
They all are sitting in front of the bonfire Suzanne literally pulled Dev to sit next to her and Tina again facepalmed herself. Sonakshi who was sitting right in front of them got more upset but she was trying not to show it and Suzanne kept on flirting with him she didn't miss a single chance to hold his hand or get close to him. After some time Sona just couldn't take it anymore so she excused herself and went inside the house. She sat in one of the rooms and cried, Dev wanted to follow her but he couldn't leave right away but after few minutes he went in and heard her cry he went inside the room
D:: Sona what's wrong ? What happened?
S:: I told you don't call me Sona I have a name Sonakshi okay?
D:: okay Sonakshi why are you crying?
S:: why do you care and why are you here?
D:: Sona I care because you mean a lot to me.
S:: Sonakshi!!!
D:: ok Sonakshi what happened?
S:: you don't have to care about me just leave me alone
D:: what happened atleast you can say that
S:: fine you don't want to leave me then I will leave
She started walking out but this time Dev wasn't going to let her go. He grabbed her by her arm and pushed her to the wall and put his hands on the wall caging Sona.
D:: Sonakshi!!! Listen to me... I don't know why you are behaving like this with me but I just know I'm getting hurt
S:: oh so now I'm the bad one I am hurting you
D:: then tell me how am I hurting you
Sona kept quiet giving Dev angry look, Dev tried holding her hand
S:: stop don't touch me. You can go and hold Suzanne's hand, anyway you were holding her hand in front of everyone all this time so go now.
Sona pushed him away and she was about to walk when Dev pulled her and this time he just caged her in his arms
D:: if you want you can hit me you can push me but I'm not letting you go till you tell me why are you behaving like this
S:: Dev leave me
D:: I told you, you can hit me
Sona was so angry that she tried pushing him when she couldn't move him so she hit him on his chest
S:: I hate you I hate you
D:: but Sona I love you
S:: you don't love me. If you did then you would come to see me atleast once in the whole week, if you really loved me then you would spend time with me at least today after the whole week
D:: I'm sorry, I'm really sorry
S:: if you really loved me then would know how I feel
D:: I'm sorry baby I'm sorry
S:: don't call me that, I hate you
D:: Sonakshi stop saying that
S:: no I won't stop
D:: but I love you
Suddenly there was sound of footsteps
Suzanne:: Dev Dev are you in here
S:: here you go now you have to leave me your girlfriend is here
D:: she is not my girlfriend and she is nothing to me stop saying that
S:: but why would a girl say she feels you like her too?
D:: how am I suppose to know that
S:: you must be flirting with her that's why
D:: fine I was doing all that, why are you getting jealous? You just said you hate me.
S:: you dog....!!! You said I'm jealous? You think I hate you? You think that's why I was waiting to see you? You think that's why I wanted to sit with you? You think that's why I wanted to spend the day with you?
D:: then tell me why?
Suzanne:: Dev??
