Free time will work similarly to free time in the games solely for streamlining purposes. Each character will have five different events and you'll be given a certain number of chances to hang out with someone. For example if you so choose you can hang out with someone 4 times before moving on to the next chapter. Some story content may be worked into those chapters but most of it will be relegated to the daily life, deadly life, and trials.
