The school festival had arrived, and the campus was buzzing with energy. The usual calm of the school had been replaced by the sound of laughter, music, and chatter as students set up booths, decorated walls with vibrant posters, and eagerly awaited the evening’s events.
Jiwon and Jungwon had planned to spend the day together, but the festival was far from relaxing. Jungwon’s band was scheduled to perform later, and Jiwon had joined a group of friends helping out at a food stall. Still, the excitement of the day couldn’t shake the underlying tension that had settled between them, especially after the quiet, intimate moments they had shared.
They hadn’t kissed since that peaceful evening at her house—the night Jungwon had brushed his lips against her forehead. And while neither of them spoke of it directly, the lingering feeling between them was undeniable.
As the day wore on, Jungwon managed to find Jiwon amidst the crowds. His face broke into a grin when he spotted her, standing near the stall with a tray of food in her hands. She was wearing a simple but pretty dress, the one he had complimented her on when she first wore it months ago.
“You look beautiful,” he said, walking over to her with a gentle smile.
Jiwon’s heart skipped a beat. “Thank you,” she said, her eyes meeting his with a smile that felt like everything. “You’re looking good too, Jungwon. The stage is calling you, though, isn’t it?”
He chuckled, running a hand through his hair. “Yeah, but I had to find you first.”
Jiwon felt her face warm, and her heart fluttered at his words. There was something so soft in his gaze, something so full of affection that it made her feel like she was the only one around.
“I’ll be watching you perform later,” she said, her voice soft but confident. “You’re going to be amazing.”
“I hope so,” he said, stepping a little closer. He lowered his voice just enough for only her to hear. “But I think my best performance might just be with you tonight.”
Jiwon laughed softly, playfully nudging him. “Oh? I’m excited to see that.”
Before they could say anything else, the loudspeaker blared a reminder about the next event, and Jungwon gave her an apologetic smile.
“I really should get going,” he said, his voice tinged with regret. “But I’ll see you later, okay?”
“Of course. I’ll be here waiting,” Jiwon replied, though her heart ached a little at the thought of not seeing him for a while.

Later that evening, the sun had finally dipped below the horizon, and the festival lights illuminated the entire campus with a soft, magical glow. The air was cool, but the warmth of the crowd and the music kept everyone energized. Jiwon had managed to catch most of Jungwon’s performance, her eyes locked on him the whole time. His voice was confident, and his energy on stage was contagious.
After the performance, the two of them finally reunited, both of them with wide smiles. Jungwon’s face was flushed with excitement, and his eyes sparkled with happiness.
“You were amazing,” Jiwon said, her voice full of admiration.
Jungwon grinned, his cheeks slightly pink. “Thanks. It feels good to have you watching me.”
“Of course. I told you, you’d be great.”
He stepped closer to her, his hands tucked into his pockets. “I’m glad you think so. I had one goal today.”
Jiwon tilted her head, curiosity lighting her eyes. “What goal?”
“To make you proud.”
She blinked, taken aback by his honesty. Her heart squeezed in her chest. “You’ve already done that,” she said softly. “You always do.”
There was a beat of silence between them, where the noise of the festival seemed to fade into the background. Jungwon took a step forward, his eyes scanning her face, as though trying to memorize the exact expression she was wearing.
“I think,” he began, his voice low, “I think I’ve been waiting for the right moment.”
“Waiting for what?” Jiwon asked, her heart racing a little faster.
His smile softened as he reached for her hand, his fingers brushing lightly over hers. “For this.”
Before she could fully process his words, Jungwon leaned in slowly, his face so close to hers that she could feel the warmth of his breath. The world felt like it had stopped moving, everything around them blurring into a soft, distant hum.
And then, with a tenderness that made her heart thrum in her chest, he closed the small distance between them and pressed his lips to hers.
Jiwon’s eyes fluttered closed as she leaned into the kiss, her fingers instinctively curling around his. It was slow, sweet—almost tentative at first—but then the quiet warmth between them deepened as they both gave in to the moment. It wasn’t a rushed kiss. It was one filled with everything they had been feeling for so long—affection, longing, and an unspoken promise.
When they finally pulled away, their foreheads rested together for a brief second, both of them smiling softly.
“I’ve wanted to do that for a long time,” Jungwon whispered.
Jiwon chuckled lightly, her face still flushed from the kiss. “You have no idea how long I’ve wanted you to.”
Jungwon’s smile widened, his hand gently cupping her face. “Then I’m glad I finally did.”
They stayed like that for a moment longer, the sound of the festival and the laughter around them fading into nothing as they shared a quiet, perfect moment. The world seemed to open up just for them, their hands entwined, their hearts beating in sync.
And as they walked off into the festival together, hand in hand, Jiwon couldn’t help but feel like this was just the beginning of something beautiful. Something that would last, something that would continue to grow, just like the simple, sweet moments that had brought them here.
