Three Inches Deep

Razor blades barraging an open wound
Clogged lines leading to the source of the,
Beating life line of the engine

Bam, goes beating drum,
Life fading by the second
Hurry or you will be next
The dark shadow creeps up next to the bed
Come on little one it won't hurt once you're here
Numbers up, numbers down

Blood rushes to the site of damage
Healing an open wound is never easy
Biology overrides human physics.

Tell me again how he survived,
Such a terrible accident
One that couldn't be prevented by medicine

Leave me be
I don't know how to feel
When someone your close too,
Sits on his death bed, waiting for results.
He'll be fine, but are you okay?
Yes I'm fine, but don't lie to me about him
You can't possibly know after a week

In, out.
Blood rushes through a terminated ventricle

Compromised
Waiting on a list, getting better
Waiting from a far
Will he get any better, just by wishing?

Stabilized by the plastic veins
In out goes the chest
Breathing is almost automated
Stuck on a machine, no where to go
Watching, feeling the pain of needles being stuck
Seeing the dim smile of an,
It'll be okay, face
When I know he's in pain
It's hard to understand
Of watching someone you know
Being torn to pieces
To them being replaced by some sort of miracle

However it's modern medicine at it's finest
Replacing a dead heart with another
Magically making it work
With another body as it's host
When that host is trying to kill it's new engine

Biology is magnificent, when it works
Bottles and bottles of medication
All doing something different
But mostly making the host think there isn't anything wrong
When there is a new object in the chest
Keeping the pace with the new body
Like nothing has changed

Tell me again how this is supposed to work?
When two more hospital visits tell us that he needs another pill
Why couldn't we just make a take all
To fix all his problems
Hell just tell his body to make a new heart
Can't be that hard right?

Days, weeks and months have finally passed
He can walk without getting tired
Manages his body better than he's ever done
And pretty much back to normal
So why was our life turned upside down
