Okay, so we know that Daichi and Ennoshita are captains right? What if it's because they have like this . . . sixth sense of when their teammates are doing something stupid and semi-crackhead like.
Because Daichi is really good at reigning people in and Ennoshita can handle all of the second years with relative ease.
And so it's the middle of their second year, and all of a sudden Yamaguchi just shoots up in class and says, "They're doing something stupid or dangerous," and just bolts out of class to find Hinata and Kageyama, who were trying to see if they could somehow short-circuit the vending machines. Don't ask me why they were trying it, or why they're out of class together, but it just popped into their heads that they should try it.
And then when Daichi and Ennoshita find out about it- after they laugh their asses off of course- they pull Tadashi aside and they're just like "Good luck kid, they're your problem next!"
And that's how Karasuno chooses their captains.
