So to everybody tuning in thank you so much! This is the review for the next 100 pages for Mariah Carey's new memoir And bye the way if you are looking for something chic an fabulous, that speaks to your mind then check out my new clothing an accessory page B.V.F! (www.bvfstore.org)
Ok so lets get into this chapter.....this one was more personal and Mariah really went more in depth into her struggles of finding herself during her youth, which a lot of us deal with. The white part of the community was very hostile to her and she wanted some family, people that could relate to her so when she hung with her cousins from her dads side and they defended her against the mean kids, including her within the family who were darker than her, it probably filled her up inside. But the feeling of an outsider was still much prevalent when one of the cousins was trying to do her make up....and she pointed out Mariah's lips were too thin, but Mariah's white freinds told her that her lips were a bit full on top, so Mariah like who do I believe, the white standard of beauty or the black standard of beauty, she just wanted somebody to tell her "you're good"..and lots of Biracial kids deal with this, like which side do I belong, this side or that side. An even tho its way better than 50 years ago, these identity problems persist. Mariah meets a group of white girls in her school who were somewhat nice to her....at first, and Mariah felt like she needed that group of freinds who wont turn her down cuz of her black side. they decided to invite her to a sleep over where one of the girls lived in Southhampton which is like a nice part of Long Island, very affluent. The girl led Mariah to a room an out her mouth.....in Mariahs face, she called Mariah the N-word! An Mariah just stood there in disbelief like, this girl who she thought was a trusted friend called her the most derogatory word ever! AND TO ADD INSULT TO INJURY, the rest of the white girls came in and just verbally assaulted her calling her N words, and nobody came to help Mariah! She was crying so much, and then it was all a blur, Mariah really struggled through her school years, constantly being judged and that part really got to me. In the chapter Mariah goes on talking about the journey to her music career, she moved to Manhattan, took odd jobs (sounds like me) but she still had that dream in her to make it and with chance meetings with many songwriters, she met Gavin Christopher who she wrote her earliest hits with like LOVE TAKES TIME and VISION OF LOVE, Gavin decided to draw up a contract and Mariah signed it, no lawyer or anything and then the sneaky music business....not knowing that Gavin was to collect a hefty royalty from most of her work till 1999! I'm just glad Mariah caught on to it and made better business decisions in her career otherwise she woulda been like Toni Braxton you know..going to court to fight for her money! I was reading an this quote really stuck out to me,
"And in the 8th grade, comparison was the only form of measurement,"
We are all guilty of this, we tend to compare ourselves to what others have, and especially with social media people posting THIER achievements and you looking at your life like.....damn what's wrong with me. Internally you feel like you're not worthy, and it eats you up inside. An I feel a lot us wouldn't be so depressed if we stopped comparing to others. So now on to the next 100 pages, she's gonna talk about Tommy in these next parts I just know she will, cuz although he was very instrumental in her career he was also very very controlling. Well thanks you guys for tuning in and I'll be back!
