"Hello? Who's there?" Mallory asked as she stood up.
Newt came into the clearing.
"Hey. It's just me." he said.
"What are you doing out here?" Mallory asked.
"I come out here from time-to-time. It's the perfect place in the Glade to sit and think." Newt explained.
"Yeah. It is." Mallory said, then turned away.
Newt noticed and stepped closer to his friend.
"Mallory, I know that you're not telling me something and I know that something is bothering you." he said, sounding serious.
"I don't know what you're talking about." she said in denial, avoiding eye contact.
"Come on, Mallory. Remember what I told you on your first night? You know that if you ever need someone to talk to, you can always come to me?" Newt said.
Mallory finally made eye contact.
"It's not that I don't want to tell you my problems. It's that...I just can't." she finally said.
"Why not? Do you not trust me?" Newt asked.
"No. It's not that." Mallory said.
"Then, what? What's holding you back?" Newt asked.
Mallory opened her bag. She pulled out the letter. He took it from her and read it to himself.
"Is this why you couldn't open up?" Newt asked.
Mallory nodded and took the letter back.
"It says at the very bottom to not tell anyone." she said.
"There's more." she said, pulling out the cassette player.
She handed it to him. He didn't know how it works. Mallory put the headphones on him and pressed the Play button. Newt listened to the song, then gave the cassette player back to her.
"Wow. That's beautiful." he said.
"There's still more. I've been having these dreams. There's always these two men in every single one of them and there's like a song. I don't know what all this means, but I just want it to stop." Mallory said, leaning up against the tree.
Newt could see that she is overwhelmed from what she has experienced. He wrapped his arms around her and rested his chin on the top of her head.
Mallory looked up at Newt, then they shared a kiss. It lasted a few seconds, then they broke from it.
"Wow." they said simultaneously.
