Chapter 9: Reflecting

(Akiri POV)

I slowly opened my eyes to see an unfamiliar white ceiling. The sound of a heartbeat monitor was heard and I looked around to see that I'm lying on a plain white bed. I tried to get up, but I stopped as soon as I felt a sudden pain on my head.

???: You're awake

I looked to my side and saw Ichika with a blonde haired female who somehow kind of looks like Charles.

Akiri: Ichika?

Ichika: Don't move too much. You still need rest

I look at the blonde haired female next to him.

Akiri: Charles? Why do you look like a girl?

Ichika: It's a long story. But yeah, Charles turned out to be Charlotte

At first I thought my eyes is playing tricks on me, but it wasn't. It makes sense, I guess. Now that I think about it, he's always seemed like he was hiding something.

Akiri: Well, it's nice to meet you, Charlotte

Charlotte: Likewise

I suddenly started coughing and Ichika quickly handed me a glass of water.

Ichika: Here

I took the glass and drank the whole glass.

Akiri: Thanks. So, how long have I been out?

Ichika: A whole day. We saw you crashing down while on we're on our way to the dorms

Charlotte: Looks like you've got into a fight. Your IS was messed up pretty bad, I'm surprised that it could still fly

The events of the fight flashes through my mind as I remembered what happened.

Ichika: Where were you? Who did this to you?

The door then slides open and Miss Orimura along with Miss Yamada walked into the room. Miss Orimura looked towards Ichika and Charlotte.

Miss Orimura: We're going to need to talk with Shiranobu in private

Ichika: We'll see you soon, Akiri

Charlotte: Get well soon

I just nodded and they went out the door.

Miss Orimura: What happened?

Akiri: Phantom Task. They got away with a prototype thermonuclear bomb. Good news is I've managed to put a tracker on one of their IS.

Miss Orimura: So I'm assuming that you're going to go after them again?

Akiri: That's the plan

There was a moment of silence before Miss Orimura continued to speak.

Miss Orimura: I've made my decision. From now on, you would not be allowed to go after them

Akiri: What?

Miss Orimura: It's too dangerous. You almost died out there

Akiri: So what? Why do you care?

Miss Orimura: You are also a student of this school and it's my job to keep you safe

Akiri: Part of the deal is that I am given freedom to continue my personal goal!

Miss Orimura: Once you're out there we could not guarantee your safety

Akiri: I am fully aware of the risks! I am not a kid like the other students here. And if I die, at least I'd die fighting instead of sitting around, doing nothing
