Chapter Six

The journey to Hogwarts was a long one but Adria had found some fun in it, with Benji and herself in a small compartment of their own it wasn't long until the cart of sweeties found them and they got to taste a range of new and wonderful magical sweets.

There were some she didn't like all that much, mainly chocolate frogs because when she opened it the bloody thing jumped from her hand the minute she tried to bite its head off. It seemed like an entire waste of money and she wasn't too happy about it.

It was dark when they had arrived, and Adria couldn't help but notice the large size of the man just down the platform when she stepped off the train. He was shouting, his loud booming voice beckoning the first years to follow him. He didn't seem scary in any way, in fact, Adria thought nothing of following the man.

They had to put their new robes on when they were on the train and both twins weren't sure if they were too fond of them. They seemed rather much compared to their old school uniform and slightly heavy. Adria wished to take them off from the moment she had them on.

Though all thoughts of negativity slipped out of Adria's mind when she entered the great hall as they called it. Just off the boats that the man, she now knew as Hagrid had guided them too, the castle glistened in the moonlight.

The castle was situated in the Scottish Highlands, so it felt rather pointless that her family had to travel to London just for the two to travel all the way back up to Scotland. It was a passing comment that didn't stay in her mind for too long, Hogwarts was a lot prettier than she thought it would be. With the soft glowing lights illuminating every window, excitement bubbled in Adria's stomach.

"This is amazing!" Benji had said on the boat, and all Adria could do was nod.

Back to the great hall, when they bounded the stairs they were stopped on arrival. Silently waiting for their next instructions and soon did a woman with stern eyes and a long robe that was very familiar come in to view. Adria was silent. She didn't want to get on this woman's bad side.

She wasn't sure what would happen if she did.

Though not soon later was she entering the halls to the Great Hall, and the feeling of warmth and home engulfed her. The ceiling showed that of a night sky and above them floated candles as the scramble of first years walked. She was mesmerised, trying her best to walk in time with the rest of the students around her but she was finding it most difficult.

It was so beautiful.

Adria watched in wonder at the hat just in front of her, sitting atop a stool almost lifeless but seeming to be the centre of attention. She could hear the muttering of eleven-year-olds around her chatting to each other and her heart dropped ever so slightly when she saw Benji talking to a random boy beside him.

It seemed as though Adria was the only one to not be making friends already.

Adria jumped only a few moments later when the once lifeless hat seemed to boom to life. She couldn't believe her eyes, and well, also her ears for it was...singing. She listened to its tale, rather confused, but listened nonetheless as it sang of the houses sitting around her, of the four founders of those houses and the meaning of them and Hogwarts.

"What the hell is this all about," Benji scoffed quietly, making the young girl next to him burst into giggles. He had started to laugh with her, and Adria could faintly hear him tell the girl his name.

"I'm Arden," said the girl, and the two of them shook hands.

Adria shifted uncomfortably, rather annoyed in her lack of capability to speak to others of her own age and kept her mouth shut. The hat seemed to sing forever.

"Now, when I call your name you will be sorted into one of these four houses. There is Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, Gryffindor and Slytherin. Whichever house the hat chooses for you, is the house you will be in for all your years at Hogwarts. Now, let the sorting begin."

There were multiple students around her, and one by one did students go rush to the stool. They sat for mere seconds and sometimes as close to a minute but then they would finally rush to the house that cheered for them.

She watched two boys at the front, one with messy hair and the other beside him with slightly longer but still messy hair. They seemed to be in a rather heated discussion with each other over the process of being sorted, Adria assumed.

"Black, Sirius!" Called Professor McGonagall and the boy with the long black hair sauntered up to the stool. He sat with a grin, and a thumbs up in the other boy's direction and the hat was placed on his head.

It didn't take too long until the hat hollered, "Gryffindor!"

A shocking amount of chatter broke out around them, "that was Sirius Black!" said one boy to another at the table just next to Adria, "his family will not be happy!"

Adria didn't have the faintest clue as to why this boy's family wouldn't be happy, but she didn't really care either.

It seemed as though the sorting went on forever, she thought that it went in alphabetical order but when Benji was called before her she couldn't help but feel the nerves build up inside her. He seemed nervous too, but he tried his best not to let it show and when the hat was placed upon his head, he seemed almost jumpy.

Though not soon after did the voice boom, "Ravenclaw!"

"Hopkins, Adria!" Professor McGonagall then called, and with shaky legs and sweaty palms, Adria slowly walked her way up to the stool. She was scared of what would happen, hoping that maybe she would also get Ravenclaw.

She sat carefully on the stool and soon after, Oh hello.

She jumped, was this hat talking to her?

Very curious. You're a tough one aren't you Miss Adria. You have the drive, the creativity of the Ravenclaw and ah...yes, your brother. You want to be in the same house as him, don't you?

She could feel all eyes on her, the hat was chatting to her and it was the weirdest experience she had ever had. It was as though it was taunting her, as though it could read every thought in her mind and she was still so nervous.

Time seemed to pass slowly, but it was as though everyone else was also getting annoyed at how long she had taken.

You value the courage of a true lion.

Very curious, indeed, Adria.

It seemed as though an hour had passed by, but it had only been five minutes. The hat seemed to be arguing with itself and its own choices of what to do with her. After some careful and elaborate planning on the hat's behalf, the loud booming voice ringed through the hall.

"Gryffindor!"

The house of the lion cheered, but Adria's heart sank.
