When the pandemic starts people's attitudes towards one another change. discrimination and racism arise. Many people are feeling anxious during these uncertain times as they navigate the risks associated with COVID-19 and experience the tension from physical distancing or isolation for what can seem like an eternity. But people of Asian ancestry face yet another set of challenges posed by racism and xenophobia which has soared during the COVID-19 pandemic amidst rumors and blame placed on China.

But since COVID-19 swept across the world and news spread that the virus had originated in China, stereotyping of Asians has assumed a more negative tone, resulting in increasing racism, suspicion, xenophobia, bullying, and even more aggressive behavior.

Stigma often arises because of fear or uncertainty about something we don't fully understand. Because COVID-19 is new and there are still many unknowns, people are anxious. The mass of information flowing through social media and other channels can create misconceptions about the disease that may further cause anxiety. The discrimination and racism that results from stigma can appear in various ways, such as:

2020 is the year where racism and discrimination are very hurtful.

Traveling during the pandemic is strictly prohibited. The COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect countries differently. Challenges to any international travel at this time may include mandatory quarantines, travel restrictions, and closed borders. Foreign governments may implement restrictions with little notice, even in destinations that were previously low risk. If you choose to travel internationally, your trip may be severely disrupted, and it may be difficult to arrange travel back home.

Some European countries currently prohibit entry by tourists and other non-essential travelers. it was recommended that you visit the websites of those countries' embassies for additional information including entry/exit restrictions and permissible categories of travel.
