CHAOS THEORY.
THE END.─────
February 2015
"Willow, it's been twenty minutes." Deputy Miller said softly. "Do you think you're ready to start answering my questions now? We already have a few statements from your friends."
Willow bit her lip, nodding.
She had been sitting there, silent. Willow hadn't been sure she wanted to already recount the events from the last day or so. So, they had been sitting there in silence until now. She didn't move her eyes from the spot on the table as she shifted in the chair. She didn't want to look in his eyes. She knew what she would find. Willow wasn't sure who they had already talked to before her, but she knew that none of them would've held back the truth.
And Willow knew that the police weren't going to believe them.
"How did your night start?"
Willow licked her lips, tapping her fingers against the table. "Normal. We all met up on our way to the Lodge, running into some of the others at different points. I met with Chris and Sam at the cable car station, we met Josh, and found Ashley and Matt waiting for us at the Lodge."
The deputy wrote something down.
"And you all waited for the ice to be melted around the lock, right? After you went inside, everything was still normal."
Willow nodded. "I was anxious. I was planning on finding a moment to sneak away to head down into the mines─"
"Excuse me," The deputy interrupted, "You had planned on going down into the mines? Why?"
Clearing her throat, Willow looked up at him. "I found out about them. I asked Cline why we never checked them. She said it was too dangerous, but I believe that the Washington's deserved to have closure about what happened to the twins." She ignored the crack in her voice. She knew what happened to them now. "So I decided to do it myself. Tensions were high amongst the group when Mike, Jessica, and Emily joined us in the Lodge. Mike and Jessica split to go to the guest cabin. Emily and Matt left to find a missing bag. I took that chance to go for what I told Josh was just a walk."
"And that's when you went down to the mines?"
"Yeah," Willow breathed out. "It was weird and creepy and I didn't find anything. But I heard something─"
The deputy wrote some more stuff down.
"─something not human. I freaked and I ran. I hid until I felt like it was safe again. I would've died if I hadn't hid."
"And why's that?"
Willow looked him in the eyes, "The Wendigo. That's what it was."
"And after you felt safe again?" The deputy's tone was off. Willow knew they wouldn't believe her words, let alone the others. That wasn't going to stop her.
