The year 1963 was a dark year for steam engines, as most of them know, diesel engines were replacing steam engines. Only a few engines were preserved, or had special permission to be out on the mainline. As Edwin was pulling in with a goods train, he could hear some LNER engines chattering about in the sheds.
"It's getting quite grim!" Said an LNER A4 called Spencer. "More steam engines are being cut up by the cutter's torch!"
"I know!" Said an LNER A3 called Flying Scotsman. "I've already lost four of my siblings: Solario, Donovan, Persimmon, Prince Palatine."
"Prince Palatine's gone?!" Cried an LNER V2 called Green Arrow. "I really like that guy."
"I know! More and more steam engines are being replaced by diesels!" Added Spencer.
Edwin was more worried than ever!
That night, Edwin and his crew had made their decision!
"Driver, we're going to escape from here!"
"Escape?!" Exclaimed Edwin's driver. "To where?"
"Anywhere but here! Even if we reached to a heritage railway, we'll be safe there!"
Edwin filled up with coal and water up to the brim, and puffed off into the night!
