After the passing of her mother,
Haseya Nizhónígo Flores and her family move to South Central LA (Freeridge) to begin a new chapter in their lives.
She expected to have many challenges along the way, but what she didn't expect- was love.

I met one of my classmates at the bookstore a few days ago while looking for a few books I needed. Her name is Selisa, she has this kinda groovy aesthetic going on and I just vibe with her.
I texted her to meet me at the cafe, as I got off the bus.
Skating to the cafe was nice, I got to enjoy the nice weather and just vibe to my music. Once I met Selisa at the cafe, I took out my headphones and we just made conversation about our school schedule.
'Thank god I met Selisa, because I NEED a study partner- or else I end up procrastinating...'
We both began walking to our class upstairs.
"So, you meet any hot guys yet on campus?" She asks me.
"Not yet... but.."
"But what?" She interrupts.
"I'm kinda not looking for a relationship rn... I had a bf back home on the rez but I'm just not ready yet." I explained.
"I totally feel that, it's good to just love yourself and figure out what you want to do." She says, as we enter the studio.
"Yeah I'm just trying to figure out college right now... I applied to work at a diner near my house but I'm still waiting on a call back for an interview." I stated with a sigh.
"Don't worry girl, you'll get the job." Sel said reassuring me.
The rest of our classmates entered and took their seats. Noise from side conversations can be heard, as well as the sounds of people taking out needed supplies. Mrs. Taylor (our professor) went over in the email, that we would need just charcoal and a sketchbook, for today. So I primed my paper before we started anything.
We would be sketching a still life of different objects on a table, that sat in the middle of the room.
Unfortunately, before we began that...
"I would like for you all to introduce yourselves. Your name, year, and what you're studying." Mrs. Taylor said.
12 minutes later...
Eventually I was next in this odd shaped circle, to introduce myself.
"Hi my name is Haseya, this is my first year and I'm majoring in Education as well as American Indian Studies, and minoring in Arts."
