I arched my left eyebrow and swiped the gown from his hand.
'Over there is a change booth' He pointed to a privacy module where I could change out of my uniform.
'I think you need to work on your bedside manner.'
'Like I told you, I save my best behaviour for you, old friend' He gave me an evil smile and proceeded to the radiation-shielded terminal for the Holographic Scanner. He powered the machine and started its diagnostic tests.
I turned and headed to the booth to change out of my uniform.
[With friends like that, who needs enemies.] Bob said.
Sometimes I think the same thing. I responded and caught myself. Bob, why are you out here?
[It's lonely in there, and I got bored.]
Get back in there.
[Come on, be reasonable. I'll behave. Scouts honour.]
Three things; One, you are a voice residing in my head, so you could have never been a scout. Two, I was never a scout either. Three, you don't have any honour. Do you even know what honour is?
He said nothing for a long while. He sighed and sulked back into the hole in my mind where he lives. I should feel victorious, but I felt guilty about hurting his feelings.
Great, I'm guilty of hurting the feelings of a voice sharing my head. I sighed and disrobed.
I folded my clothes into a neat bundle, placed everything in the bin provided, donned the gown and returned to the Holographic Scanner.
Deepak gave me an odd look. 'I just received a call from Dr Figueroa on behalf of the XO.'
'Oh, what was it about?' I asked curious.
'She said that XO commented you should put it in its place more often. Also, the Scouts have not been a functional organisation for over a century.' My jaw dropped open.
God! Dang it, Seki! You really need to shut up about Bob. I was clueless to why she was so irrational about me and my voice. I swore that I'd get to the bottom of that after Cassandra and Deepak completed our medical examinations.
'What was she talking about?' He queried.
'I had an argument with the voice in my head. I won the argument. It shut up for a bit and we mentioned the Boy Scouts.' If Deepak did not think Seki and I were bonkers before, I am sure he considers so now.
Deepak gave me a long stare. 'Right. I mentioned we were coming to the fun part.'
