"How comes there is no power in our home yet the neighbours have power?" I heard one of them ask.
"I told you that I saw someone behind our house earlier but you never believed me." I heard the other one reply.
The download was too slow, I could not manage to complete it in time without being caught. Also, it was too late for me to walk away since there was only one way out and that was the path the people coming were using.
I quickly grabbed my backpack and inserted the laptop in it. I had set my laptop such that it could continue with whatever it was doing even after closing the cover lid. Two people then showed up at where I was standing and found me pretending to be fixing the Meter box. They were a male and a female.
"Excuse me, who are you and what are you doing on our meter box?" The guy asked.
"Is this your house sir?" I asked.
"Yes it is." He replied.
"Very well, I think I should now call the cops." I said playing smart.
"Are you mad? You are the one trespassing and then you threaten me with cops?" He asked angrily.
"Do you see the label on this uniform?!" I asked with a harsh tone pointing on my chest where the label was.
That was when he realized I was wearing the Power Company uniform.
"You are the type of people we are looking for. You thought we would never find out how you connected you electricity huh?" I added confidently.
Definitely, I was bluffing, his connection was all fine according to the policies set by the Power Company but I had to outsmart them and beat my way out.
From his body size and the Gucci clothes the two were wearing, I could tell they were tycoons and one thing I knew for sure; tycoons never got things done themselves, they always hired people to do the job for them.
"I am so sorry sir, I had not seen your uniform." The guy said humbling himself.
"I have already taken a record of your meter and now I have to forward it to the authorities for action to be taken against you." I replied taking my backpack from the ground.
"Sir, we can sort this like men." He said sounding tensed.
"It's too late for that I am sorry." I replied.
"How about we sort things my way? I mean, there may be something you need in exchange for your pardon!" The lady said.
"Hhm! That sounds better; anything I need you to do, you will do it in exchange for my silence?" I asked.
"Yes, anything!" She replied calmly.
She was wearing a black mini-skirt and a translucent top; definitely she looked hot.
"Good, I want him to leave and then you are coming with me to my house for the night." I said putting on a serious face.
"Come on dude, she is my wife man! Something else please?" The guy asked sounding threatened.
Before I could reply to his plea, the laptop made some noise.
"What is that?" The guy asked.
"That is a message from my boss, he needs me to cut off a few more Meter boxes as well." I replied.
"Be lenient please? We can give you cash!" The guy said.
"I think I was clear, I want her for a night; exactly the way she looks. That is if you do not want to serve seven years in prison." I said and started walking away.
"Okay Fine! I will do it; I will go with him." The lady said.
"What? Come on honey, you can't just go with this guy and spend the night with him!" The guy shouted frustrated.
"What choice do we have?" She asked him sounding desperate.
She then winked and pushed up her boobs a little bit up. I then started laughing.
"What's funny?" The guy asked.
"You should see your face dude; relax, I am just messing around with you! As much as any man would want to have your woman, I have more important issues to attend to other than attending to your wife." I replied.
"So it was just a joke?" He asked.
"Come on! You think I did not see her wink? I know what she meant." I replied.
"Oh yeah? What did she mean?" The guy asked.
"You let me enjoy her company overnight then what next? Definitely she would set me up for rape or such kind of staff and I be the one to go to prison; I am not a dummy." I replied laughing.
"Damn! This guy can also read minds! He is smart." The lady replied smiling.
"Enough of the jokes now. I need to check your wiring in the house. If it is well done, I will fix your meter box and do you a favour, I will stay quiet." I said.
"What if it is not?" The lady asked.
"Then you will have 48hours to clean your mess before I come back with the cops." I replied.
"Thanks man, I owe you one." The guy said excitedly.
"Don't thank me yet Mr." I replied.
"Call me Yabkeiva." He replied.
"Very well Yabkeiva, shall we?" I asked showing him the way.
"Yeah sure! Come with us." He replied as he led the way.
We had just gotten out of the bushes and were headed towards Yabkeiva's house when I saw Virginia; she was accompanied by two cops. I was on a tight spot; in case the cops saw me, they would arrest me and I would get convicted with extra charges including obstruction of justice.....
