Dawson P.O.V.

After dinner, which much to Cat's dismay, I pay for we begin to walk back to the car when I notice Cat is walking slower. "You okay," I ask after I stop walking and she nods, "Yeah, fine." "Want me to care you," I half-joke. Cat flushes and I walk in front of her before crouching down, "Hop on," I say, and look back to Cat to see her eyeing me skeptically. "Are you sure," she asks and I nod. She climbs onto my back and wraps her arm around my neck and legs around my waist. I hold onto her legs and begin to walk, "Are you sure I'm not too heavy," she asks and I laugh, "Cat, you probably weigh 90 pounds soaking wet, I'm fine." I say with a laugh and continue to walk as I hear her laugh. Halfway to the car Cat leans her head on my shoulder, "Is this okay," She whisper asks and I nod, "It's fine."  I whisper back. When we make it to the car I set Cat down and open the door for her. She mumbles a thank you and I can tell she's tired, hell I'm convinced she fell asleep as I carried her. I get into the car and glance over at her to see her head against the window and her eyes shut making her eyelashes cast shadows over her cheeks.

I find myself smiling when I finally start the car and turn the radio off so she doesn't wake up. When I pull into her driveway I notice a car that I assume is her mom's and I shake her shoulder slightly, "Cat, you're home," I whisper and she stirs before her eyes open then they go wide with shock. "I am so sorry I fell asleep I didn't even notice how tired I was and-" "Relax it's okay," I say with a chuckle and she smiles apologetically at me before looking at the car. "My mums home and I forgot to text her that I'd be out," "Will you get in much trouble," I ask and look at her. She shakes her head, "No, she probably got home from the hospital and went straight to bed," she says and I look at her confused, "Hospital?" "She's a general surgeon at the hospital so she works long and weird hours," Cat explains and I nod as we both get out and I walk her up to her porch. "This was nice, thank you, Dawson," Cat says as she looks up at me after grabbing her key out of her pocket, "Yeah, it was. Text me if you ever want to do something like this again." Cat unlocks the door and looks back at me then gets on her tippy toes and ghosts her lips over my cheek, "Goodnight, Dawson," I smirk and lean down before kissing her cheek and whispering in her ear, "Goodnight, Cat," I say then lean back up to my full height. Cats cheeks look flushed and she quickly goes inside and flashes me one more smile before closing the door. I walk back to my car with a smile on my face and drive back home hoping Dawson will be gone or asleep so I don't have to explain the smile on my face.

Cat P.O.V.

I close the door and take a deep breath to calm my heart rate when I hear my mum call out from the kitchen, "Where were you," so I wander in there to see her sitting at the table eating pasta. "I was out with a friend," I explain and fill a glass up with water, "A boy," she asks with a brow raised and I nod. "Yeah, a boy mum," I answer and take a sip of the water. "You know I don't like you out late much less with a boy," she says sternly but I know it's out of love and worry. "I know, I know I'm sorry he took me down to the river-front and I forgot to text you," I explain and she nods. "Okay just text me next time," she says and I nod before heading upstairs to my still unpacking room, "Night mum," I call out. "Night sweetie," she calls in response. I quickly head up the stairs and into my room to change before laying on my bed, which's still on the floor and I really need to fix that.

I find my mind drifting to the brown-haired boy I was just with and the fun I had with him all day. His smile could light up a room if he ever fully smiled and the way his eyes twinkled when he mentioned his family and Brooklyn. It's hard to get rid of the feeling of how happy I was today because I know where this happiness gets you and it tears you down until you lose yourself and I refuse to do that again.
