🌺Chapter 06🌺 The Talk

I groaned softly as I sit up on the bed slowly. I sighed softly and looks around the room. I found Killer and Horror were still sleeping on their bed. Horror's bed is on the right side of me, while Killer's on the left side. My bed is between their bed. I looked at the clock on the desk and it says 7 AM. Something catches my attention, there's a note beside the clock. I took it and take a look at it.

Dust, Can you go to the mansion right after you woke up? Thank you.

- Nightmare.

Since when did he put this note here? I heard a creak as I looked towards the window between my bed and Horror's. It opened slightly. Ah, I see. Welp, I better get ready then. I sighed as I get off the bed, and went straight to the bathroom. After a few minutes taking a bath, I wear up my usual clothes. I walked out of the bedroom and climbed downstairs.

I went to the kitchen to drink something. After then, I walked out of the house. I have to come back here before they woke up, we promised to have breakfast together. I sighed as I walked away from the house. Not much people are outside, of course, it's still morning. Some of them might still be sleeping.

The wind in the morning feels a little bit cold. It's also a little bit warm because of the sunlight. The birds are flying here and there, singing beautifully. This world is amazing, it has everything we need. If those entities destroyed this world it'll be a shame. It's up to me and the two of my friends to get rid of them.

After a few minutes of walking, finally, I have arrived in front of Nightmare's mansion. Cross, our training instructor, is there sitting on the short stairs. He noticed me as he stood up, giving me a warm smile. I smiled back at him. I took a few step forward and stopped in front of him. He's only wearing a black turtle-neck sweater with long sleeves and a pair of shorts with a white X sign. He stood up.

"Here to see Nightmare?"

He asked. I nodded my head.

"Okay, follow me."

Cross walked towards the doors, I climbed the short stairs and stood behind him. He opened the door and walked in, I followed him. We both walked through the hallways, it's pretty dark. The only light that brighten the hallways are the sunlight that comes from the windows.

Cross leads the way to the dinning room, once we're in front of the dinning room, Cross opened the door. I saw Nightmare is sitting on the chair, one of his leg is above his other leg. He holds a glass of wine. There's also some fruit on the table in front of him. Cross then leaves the room after a few while.

Nightmare mentioned me to sit down on the other chair. I walked towards the chair and sat down on it. There's an empty plate in front of me and a spoon and fork on each sides of the plate. I looked at Nightmare, he is just drinking the wine while staring at me. Killer already told him that I don't like being stared at like that but Nightmare still staring at me.

Have he always been staring like this to his crew too? Nightmare feels a little bit different than a few days ago. Nightmare put down his glass of wine on the table as he sit straight and cleared his throat. He acts just like how a king would be. I looked at the handwatch on my wrist, it's almost eight. I need to go home in a few minutes after this. This handwatch is also an alarm and a map when the entities come to attack us.

"Dust."

I looked at him immediately.

"How was the training yesterday?"

"Hm? Oh um.. it went well. Cross even said that we don't even need training."

"That might be true but these entities.. you can't underestimate them."

"Yes, I know."

"How are they?"

"Hm? Who?"

"Killer and Horror."

"Oh! Um.. they're fine. They're still sleeping. Like babies."

I chuckled softly at the last word.

"Hm.. and you?"

"I'm fine too."

"Sleep well?"

"Yeah."

Then silence filled the room. After a minute, some maids come inside the dinning room, then putting foods on my plate and Nightmare's.

"I- no, no, I'm not gonna be too long in here.."

"It's okay, Dust. Just have your breakfast here if you haven't."

"Well, yes, I haven't had any breakfast but I-"

"Nevermind that. Dust."

"Y-yes..?"

"... nothing, I just... have you heard about the previous?"

"The.. previous?"

"Yes. You see, you and your friends have taking this duty.. and this duty.. is a very risky duty."

"I know it's risky.. Killer and I were against this but we also can't let Horror fight them by himself."

"I see. This duty can lead to death, Dust."

"..death..?"

"Mhm. There are hundreds of people before your team who fought the entities."

"Oh? So.. we're not the only ones?"

"No. Even Cross and Error were in a team to fight them. They had fought before your team."

"I see. Why did they stop?"

"They.."

Nightmare's eye were looking at the door behind me. Someone's probably there.

"One of their teammate were killed."

I widened my eyes in shock.

"K-killed.."

"Yeah.."

I stayed silent as I listened to him.

"After he died.. Cross, Error and Ink stopped fighting them. Ink goes back to where he belong, while Cross and Error stay here with me."

"So.. hundreds of team that fought to protect this village before.. were also killed?"

Nightmare nodded,

"They all died in the line of duty."

Nightmare stood up as he walked towards me. Then he grabbed my hand as I stood up. Both of us walked out of the room, he leads the way to a room. Once we are in front of the room's door, Nightmare opened the door as we went inside. Once we are inside, I saw nothing but.. tombstones.

"What.. is this..?"

"This is the previous people who fought those entities and lost their lives in the line of duty. These are their tombstones."

"I... I thought that we are the only ones who fought those entities.."

"No. There are many of them."

Nightmare walked out of the room as I followed him. Both of us stood in front of the room in silence. Does this mean that..

"Nightmare.... um.. how long have you been here and how long have they've been attacking.."

I asked.

"Long enough, I can't remember. If only I found their base earlier all of this would have ended and we will be living peacefully."

I gripped my arm tightly. Nightmare walked towards me and holds both of my shoulders and said,

"Now that you know this, please.. be careful while fighting them. We.. still trying to find their base. Until then, stay strong and be careful."

I stared at him for a few moments. I badly want to say I want to retreat from this duty, but I also don't want this village and world be destroyed by them. I nodded my head at him, he let go of my shoulders.

"We.. will give our best to fight them. Please, find their base as soon as you can, Nightmare."

"Yeah. Thank you, and be careful."
