Tris is the new girl at a unique high school. The school is divided into houses, also known as factions. As Tris experiences her first year here she meets many new people, not all take the role a friend.

My name is Beatrice Prior. There is something you should know about me. I was a 13 year old girl who was addicted, drank,smoked, and disobeyed every rule my parents gave me. It got really bad. I was put in rehab and was forced to move away from my 'gang'. I am now 18 and am starting a new life here now. I am getting better. Really. I only ever did it because I struggle with self-confidence. I am anorexic and bulimic. I also cut. Nobody knows though well, except for my gang and brother, but he died and I haven't been the same since. All I have to say is that The struggle is real.

A young Natalie Prior has just come to the Bureau of Genetic Welfare. A young man named David finds out about an Erudite plan and wants to send her out into the city and see what's going on. He plans to send her to the Dauntless headquarters. David, though, finds himself falling for young Natalie and finds himself jealous that she falls for someone else.
