Y/n and James hadn't spoken since the argument. Y/n barely spoke to any of the marauders... not even Lily. To say she missed them was an understatement. She wasn't herself without her friends.
Y/n sent a longing glance towards the marauders sitting a few people away from her. She looked back down at her food, playing around with it before standing up and walking out of the great hall. Sure, she's making a scene but she's tired. So, so tired of being there with them - but not really there. And to make matters worse, she did it to herself.
Unbeknownst to her, James Potter had gotten up and followed her to the secret corridor hidden behind one of the tapestries. "Y/n, can we talk?" James called out, softly. Y/n looked up at him and nodded, he was already here so why not.
"I miss you." James sucked in a breath. "I miss us."
"I miss us, too, James. So much. But I've seen how you're thriving. And I wouldn't wish to take that away from you." Y/n sighed. To any eavesdroppers it would seem that Y/n was martyring herself. But James knew she would never. He knew that Y/n truly believed every word she said.
"Enough with this 'you're better without me' shite. 'M tired of it, because it's not true." James protested. Y/n opened her mouth to say something but quickly shut it.
"I'm giving up my role as prefect, and i'm resigning as quidditch captain." James blurt, studying y/n's face for a reaction. "James..." She muttered. "I'm doing this for you, y/n. I'm going to be with you - I have to be with you!" James cried out. "Am I that important?" Y/n croaked.
"Y/n, you are the most important person. I don't care if you're a muggle-born, or if you're any of the things you claim to be. Because I think if you weren't exactly who you are, I would despise you. I love you because you're you!" James exclaimed.
"Oh, James." Y/n squeaked, jumping into James' arms. "I love you." James muttered softly.
