Chapter 9: Night Terrors

Bunny awoke to Kari the next morning to sleeping soundly, her face buried in his neck. He smiled, giddy. He kissed her on the forehead, and settled down to sleep again. 

Suddenly, Kari began tossing and turning. Her face contorted into a silent scream, and her body convulsed. Terrified, Bunnymund shook her frantically.

"Kari! Kari, wake up!" The female pooka's eyes shot open, and she sat up, shaking. A tear ran down her cheek, and she collapsed onto Bunny, sobbing.

"Kari! What happened?" Bunny asked, holding her tightly. She looked up at him. It took her a few moments, but she eventually spoke. 

"Bunny, it was horrible. I was dreaming, and then this, this man came to me. He told me that he was coming for me, and that he was coming for all of us. Not just you and me, but all of the pookas who had escaped him years before. He seemed angry at your friend, too..Jack. And I think he said something about Santa an the Sandman and the Tooth Fairy, but I don't remember that part very well. He said he was after you, and that he would find me..and that afterwards, there would be no such thing as hope, or love, or light. He said he was stronger now..something with more power than nightmares and fearlings combined..I thought it was just a bad dream..but it was so..so real," Kari put her head in her paws, and Bunnymund's eyes grew wide. If this was real, and if this man was after Kari and the pookas...Bunny was panicked. He turned to Kari, and grabbed her paws in his.

"What..what did he look like?"

Kari shuddered. "He was tall, and freaky. A long shadowy robe, spiky black hair, no eyebrows.."

Bunny gasped. "Oh no. No no no no no. We- I thought we expelled him to the other side of the realm," Bunny put his paws on his temples. "He can't be back. He just can't."

"Bunny, who are you talking about?"

Bunny looked into Kari's eyes. "Pitch Black."
