Chapter 11: Caught In The Act

Back at the warren, Kari and Bunnymund sat in silence for a while. Finally, Kari said something.

"Pitch. So he's..the Boogeyman?'

Bunny grimaced. "Yeah. We beat him before, but now..if he really is stronger.." Bunny shuddered at the thought.

"It's gonna be fine, though, right?" Kari hugged him. "I have you. That's all I need."

Bunnymund smiled, despite the circumstances. He hugged her back, but broke away. The two stood up.

"What's wrong, Bunny?"

"The sun's up. My mom is gonna flip if she finds out I was gone. I-" Bunny didn't like the thought of leaving Kari alone, but if he went back, got into the house before Tori woke up, and then told her and the guardians about Pitch, maybe everything would be okay. 

"I have to go. But I promise." He took her paws in his. "I promise you'll be okay. As long as I'm here, you'll be safe from Pitch." 

Kari nodded, and kissed him passionately one more time. "I'll be okay. I'm a big tough girl," she joked, trying to make him feel better. "Now go home, and hurry."

Bunny nodded and raced off. Kari watched him go, and smiled to herself. She turned around to leave, and gasped in horror as a shape emerged from behind her. The figure grinned.

"Now, where do you think you're going, my dear?"

Bunny raced home. He had to get back before Tori woke up. He arrived, and opened the door. The coast was clear. He raced through the kitchen, and skidded to a stop at the staircase. There, standing on the bottom step, waiting for him, was Tori. Bunny gulped as his mother approached him.

"Bunnymund E. Aster. Where were you?! I was worried sick!" Tori screamed. You are in so much trouble, young man."

Bunny groaned. "Mom! I'm a guardian! So I had a little fun, big deal! That's not important! What's important is that Kari's in-"

"Kari? Who's Kari? What did you do with this girl? I don't even know her! And you spent the night with her too?"

Uh oh. Bunny shook his head frantically. "No, I mean yeah, I did sleep with her, I mean, but not like that! I wouldn't!"

Tori shook with anger. "And you snuck out last week to that party. I told told you not to go to that party, and you deliberately disobeyed me!  You are in so much trouble right now. You're still so young!"

"I am not!" Bunny yelled. He had to tell his mom about Kari's nightmare before it was too late. "Mom! Just listen to me! Kari's in danger!"

"Bunnymund, I do not want to hear this!" Tori fumed. "I will not-"

"MOM!" Bunny screamed. Tori opened her mouth to talk, but saw her son's pleading eyes. He looked like he was about to cry. She sighed.

"What is it?"

"Mom, it's Pitch."

Tori's mouth opened in horror, and she stood there on the stairs, shocked. She forgot all about being angry, and ran to her son.

"Are you alright? Did he hurt you?" Tori checked Bunny for injuries, and he twisted away.

"Ugh, rack off Mom! No, we didn't encounter him but..he's back. And he's stronger. He's coming for us. All of us. Starting with Kari."

Tori paced back and forth. "This...this is bad. We have to tell the guardians. Quick." She thumped her foot on the floor and a tunnel opened underneath. "To the workshop."
