AN- this is what Neville looks like in this dr and in this dr, he went straight to being a teacher after he graduated. We are 24/25 in this dr (my birthday is in September so I'm a couple of months older than him, his birthday is in July)

also, snape didn't die I'm sorry I'm a snape apologist bc of my George dr

my pov

I walked through the school with McGonagall, who was now the headmistress, as she talked about the school, explaining the houses and explaining who was in charge of each house. she talked about the past of the school and what she wanted for the future. the fact that I would be teaching Defence Against the Dark Arts, the flying instructor and be the quidditch referee. I got the gist of what she was saying to me but I was distracted by the beauty of the school.

The high vaulted ceilings and details in every part of the castle were absolutely breathtaking.

Minerva coughed and took me out of my trance "you will be accompanied by Professor Longbottom for the next few weeks to get you adjusted to the castle, I understand it is a maze" she said, motioning to the man in front of me.

he was extremely attractive, 6', dark hair that contrasted his light skin that had subtle freckles. he has a little bit of stubble and kind, yet tired eyes. he was wearing a pair of black slacks, a button-up with small plants all over it and a forest green sweater vest. he held out his hand with a sweet smile "please just call me Neville"

'Neville. that suits him' I thought

I tucked the loose hair that fell out of my low bun behind my ear and pushed my bangs out of my eyes "I'm Adrienne Campbell, I'm the new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher. it's nice to meet you" I said with a bright smile, shaking his hand

McGonagall gave a nod and walked off, Neville taking her place on my tour on the way to my classroom. "so you're an American?" he asked, looking at me

I chuckled "uh yes. born and raised American," I said, "I used to be an Auror, but I decided I needed a job that was a bit...less eventful."

"oh, I hate to break it to you, but you will not get less eventful here," he said with a smile "what was so eventful back in America?" he asked

I coughed "well I hate to fuel the American stereotype, but the last person I arrested stabbed me with his wand. he sharpened their wand and used it as a weapon. like his wand wasn't already a weapon!" I said, getting frustrated, which made him laugh

"Sorry, sorry I shouldn't be laughing at a story of you being stabbed, but that's bloody stupid of him" he covered his mouth

I smiled "no no its a funny story. left a nasty scar, but I've gotten worse from my own stupidity. it wasn't the actual reason I quit and came here, but we don't want to get into that" I said, looking up at him.

I was wearing a pair of tailored plaid pants, a tight brown turtleneck, a light grey blazer on top and a pair of Chelsea boots that had a small platform, making me two inches taller at 5'6.

"I will have to hear some of those stories." he smiled charmingly down at me as he opened the door to my classroom, that has a door off to my small flat where I would be staying for the school year. I looked around and smiled "this school is beautiful," I said softly "you went here, didn't you? whats a memory you have in this room?" I spun around and looked at him

he leaned against the wall and chuckled "so my third year we learned about boggarts and mine was professor snape. very fairly you try having that man as your teacher!" he said defensively at my laughter "and we used the riddikulus spell and it changed him into my grandmothers' clothes," he chuckled "I insisted on using my father's wand for so long that I really was not a great wizard when I was younger" he said, looking at the wand he was playing with

"explains why you're an herbology professor now" I teased, already feeling very comfortable and at home with him. he pointed his wand at me with a grin, "I said I was a bad wizard, not am a bad wizard"

I pulled my wand out of my bun and pointed it at me "try me"

 he raised an eyebrow "expelli-"

"Accio wand!" I said, putting my wand back in my hair quickly so I could catch his wand in my dominant hand

"I essentially duelled people for a living, Longbottom," I said with a chuckle, walking over and handing his wand back to him.

"well, Campbell." he began, taking his wand back as his hand grazed over mine, "I think it's time for dinner and you have to introduce yourself to the menaces," he said with a smile, nodding towards the door.

"may I ask why you didn't fill the muggle studies post?" he asked me as we walked out of the classroom "Dean Thomas has filled the post, but I believe it was offered to you first"

I looked at him and shrugged "I wanted something slower paced. yes, muggle studies would've been slower-paced, but I'm a pureblood American wizard so I know very little about non-maj America, and almost nothing about non-maj United Kingdom." I said "plus there's no one better to teach DADA than someone with first-hand experience with dark magic" I said, smiling at him

he nodded "fair enough fair enough" he said as we walked into the great hall

"merlin, I think you're gonna have to walk me everywhere I have no idea how we got here" I laughed

"it would be my pleasure"
