CHAPTER 12

ANA HELPED FURY UP TO STEVE'S APARTMENT BEFORE PICKING THE LOCK,

They sat there for hours until the sun went down and Ana spent the time cleaning their wounds. Fury put music on from Steve's record player, old music resonating within the small apartment.

Soon the window opened and they heard footsteps before seeing Steve enter the room. He sighed before setting down his shield, "I don't remember giving you a key."

"You really think I'd need one? My wife kicked me out." Fury stated,

"Didn't know you were married," Steve responded

"A lot of things you don't about me." Fury replied,

"I know, Nick. That's the problem." Steve turned on the light he noticed the injuries on the two of them but Fury indicated for him to be silent and turns off the light before typing on his phone and showed it to Steve,

'ears everywhere'

Ana got a good look at Steve. Since the disappearance of Jacqueline Braden, he's been getting less sleep. Her running away had it hit him hard. He really cared for the girl and she left everything behind. That girl broke the Captain's heart.

"I'm sorry to have to do this, but I had no place else to crash." Fury said while writing another message,

'SHIELD compromised'

"Who else knows about your wife?" Steve asked and Fury stood up,

'You, me, and Ana'

"Just...my friends." Fury answered and walked closer to Steve,

"Is that what we are?" Steve questioned,

"That's up to you."

Suddenly Fury was shot three times from through the wall and collapsed. Ana looked out the window at the shooter while Steve dragged Fury into the next room. She watched as Fury handed him a flash drive, "Don't...trust anyone."

Fury passed out and the door was kicked open, "Captain Rogers? Captain, I'm Agent 13 of SHIELD Special Service."

Ana looked up at Sharon, "Take care of him."

She nodded before watching Ananya take off. She opened Steve's windows and jumped onto the fire escape before climbing towards the roof.

Once she made it, she spotted the Winter Soldier. Ana jumped up and wrapped her legs around his neck but he grabbed her and pulled her off. He lifted the woman into the air by her neck over the side of the building,

"Zapomni menya, Zimniy Soldat?" (remember me, Winter Soldier?) She gasped in Russian, looking into his light blue eyes surrounded by black war paint,

His eyes widened and he dropped Ana back onto the roof. Ana got onto her hands and knees, coughing. The soldier stood above her, staring.

Ana clenched her fists and electricity from the building began to collect itself into her body. Just as she was about to leap up and attack, there was crash behind them.

Ana turned to watch as Steve threw his shield at the Winter Soldier. The soldier began running towards the edge before he turned caught it with one swift move, then threw it back to Steve before jumping off the building and disappeared.

"Who was that guy?" Steve panted, walking over and helping her stand,

"My ghost," Ana whispered, rubbing her neck.
