Draco couldn't believe the monstrosity of the entire situation.

It all started at breakfast— everything started at breakfast, Professor McGonagall of the Gryffindor house announced that the Christmas ball would be houses asking other houses.

In other words, they couldn't go with a member of their own house.

Pansy, Blaise, and Draco were all going to go as a group but now that was shot to hell.

"This is bullshit," Draco said to his friends.

"Aw it's not too bad," Pansy smiled.

"How is this not 'too bad'?" Draco demanded.

"It's like a challenge," she replied.

"Well I'm not in the mood for challenges," Draco crossed his arms.

"The first one to get a date to the ball... get's... they'll get-," Blaise pondered.

"-they'll get special privileges to the best chair in our house for a whole two months," Pansy suggested.

The chair was good initiative because believe it or not, a lot of the chairs sucked ass. But there was one chair in particular that everyone fought over.
People had been hexed, punched, threatened with blackmail, and Merlin knows what else.

So yeah, you could say that that was a good prize.

Draco considered this.
"Okay deal, let's all shake on it,"

The friends, now competitors clasped hands.

"By the end of this week, the first one with a date to the ball gets the chair," Blaise confirmed.

"Agreed," Draco said.

"Good luck everyone," Pansy said.

"You don't mean that," Draco said.

"I know," she smirked.

Day one of their little challenge was, frankly, an absolute joke.

It was especially hard for the Slytherins because apparently, the whole school despised them.

Every time Draco tried to approach someone, they'd make some lame excuse or flat out run away.

He could tell that Pansy and Blaise had the same luck judging by the downcast faces that evening.

"I thought that the Hufflepuffs were nice! But no!" Blaise snapped.

"Why were you trying to get yourself a Hufflepuff?" Pansy snorted.

"Yeah really," Draco grinned.

"What's the problem with them?" Blaise asked indignantly.

"Too soft," Pansy said.

"Oh please they're just nice, that's all," Blaise defended himself.

Draco snorted and Pansy covered her smile.

Blaise seared them each with a withering stare.
"Oh please Draco, we all know that you're a hopeless romantic on the inside,"

"I'm sorry Dray but he's got a point," Pansy laughed.

"Betrayal," Draco said.

They sat in silence, thinking over their situation.

"Have you tried the Gryffindors?"  Pansy asked.

They looked at her in disbelief.

"Do you know what that would do to our image?" Draco exclaimed.
