Hiding In Plain Sight

Chapter Twelve

Picture of Kaiser above because I finally remembered to draw something. Also, I hope the fight scene in this is okay, it's my first time writing something like it. Anyway, enjoy the chapter!

As soon as the pair heard the BOOM, they bolted for the barred window. Once Nashi and Malika reached it, they dropped down to their knees and peered inside.

Just like yesterday, the twenty-something girls were all huddled around in groups. However, none of them were talking anymore. They all had their heads turned to the door leading up, obviously having heard the explosion of magic. Then, as if a switch went off, they all screamed.

Malika flinched and covered her ears. Nashi, not wanting to expose herself, only cringed. She put one hand at the bottom of one bar and the other at the top. Then, she heated her palms, and after a few seconds, the bar melted off the surrounding cement.

She tossed it next to Malika. "Here, I think it's iron. You can keep it as a snack."

Malika smiled and took a bite out of it, then shoved the rest into her backpack. "All you do is feed me. You really know the way into my heart."

Nashi laughed and continued melting the bars. The girls inside were still panicking, too afraid to notice the two wizards outside. That is, until the last bar Nashi took out bumped into a different bar and made a loud clang!

A girl with brown hair, blue eyes, and familiar freckles caught Nashi's eyes. She gasped and tugged at her sisters' arms, turning their attention to her.

"Nashi! Is that you!?" Hailey cried out, rushing to the window. She stood on her toes, the window too tall for her height. Her younger sisters gasped and joined her. Their actions did not go unnoticed, and a few others noticed the girls outside.

Nashi bent her head down to try and talk to them at eye level. "Hailey, Mandy, Amy! Hey, you three!"

"Nashi, what happened!? Why are you out there? Where were you last night? What the he-"

"Don't worry, Mandy. I'll answer all of your questions later. But first, we need to get you all out of here. Can you fit through this window?"

"No, it's too small! Wait, why are we leaving? There's an attack happening!"

"Amy, who are you talking to!?" another girl shouted. She ran up to the window and into Nashi's view. "Wait, aren't you that girl from yesterday?"

Nashi ignored the girl. "You need to go home. Don't you want to be reunited with your parents, all five of you together again? Everyone's worried sick!"

"Don't listen to her!" the girl yelled, pushing the sisters away from the window. "They just want to take us away from Ler-"

"What is wrong with you guys!?" Malika screamed. "Why are you all so obsessed with this guy? You have entire lives back home, with your family, friends, anybody. You can't just abandon them because of a crush!"

Hearing Malika's voice, the girls stopped running around one by one. They turned to listen to her.

"I mean seriously! Don't you miss the people still in town? Everyone's crying and moping around without their sisters and daughters! They even had to call us to find you! Stop bitching about some random old guy and come with us!"

Malika finished ranting and stared at the crowd of girls. They all stayed silent, until one girl shouted, "Yeah! Let's get outta here!" More cheers erupted, the girls' opinions completely flipped.

Nashi and Malika's jaws dropped. "Holy shit, that actually worked!?" Malika said.

Nashi nodded, dumbfounded. She shook her head to snap out of it and shouted into the into, "Okay, all of you need to back up as far as you can. Everyone up against the furthest wall!"
