The Chimaera incident had been the talk of the school for days, and to much of your dismay, you had once again been a subject of conversation amongst the students of Hogwarts. You tried to stay away from all that, but it was a little impossible since it was what everyone around you also talked about.
"I still can't believe you and Sirius outran a Chimaera," Lily said as she ran her hand through her ginger hair to brush away a leaf.
"Yes you can," you grumbled, slouching against a tree. "Can we move on from that? It's been like a week."
"How can you just move on from that?!" Marlene exclaimed, taking a card from the deck in front of her. "It was a Chimaera! A Chimaera, for Merlin's sake! We're talking about a ministry-ranked 'XXXXX' creature! With the body of a goat, the head of a lion, and the tail of a dragon! So let me ask again: how can you just move on from that?!"
"I don't know, but I did," you shrugged, placing one of your playing cards upright on the deck. "Looks like I win."
"Not again!" Lily sighed exasperatedly, tossing her hand of cards into the pile. "You're too good at card games. James warned me about this, I should've listened."
"When you spend years in a house like mine, enchanting games to play against you is a pastime that occupies a majority of my days," you smirked. "Anyone want a rematch?"
"I'll pass," she rolled her eyes playfully. "No way I'll contribute to boosting your ego even more."
"I'm not Sirius, you know?" you joked.
"His attitude sometimes rubs off on you, though," Marlene hummed. "I'll fold this game, as well."
"You two are no fun," you frowned, and with one swish of your wand, the cards perfectly aligned in the deck. "There's no way you'll ever beat me if you stop playing after a few games."
"There's no way we'll ever beat you in general," Lily stood up and dusted off her robes, followed by Marlene. "I have to head to the library to return some books, so I'll be off."
"Yeah right. You just need an excuse to escape your inevitable defeat at card games," you said as she stuck her tongue out at you mockingly. "And you, Marlene?"
"To avoid being brutally defeated once more, I'll go meddle in someone's conversation," she said bluntly. "There's always one or two good talks in the Great Hall."
"Sounds like something you'd do," you shook your head with a smile. "Well then, off you two go. Abandon me for your selfish reasons."
"Okay, I'm leaving you and your dramatic Slytherin attitude," Lily sneered and waved you off as she and Marlene headed out of the courtyard and back into the castle.
You stayed in the courtyard after they had left, staring at the stack of cards in front of you for some minutes before finally deciding to go back inside. It's starting to get a little cold, anyways. It's without a doubt, a normal February afternoon, you thought as you put the deck in your pocket.
It would be dinner time soon, so you decided to head to the common room and catch up on some reading in silence before you'd be surrounded by the loud and energetic crowd of the Slytherin Quidditch team.
I've learned to appreciate how noisy they can be, you smiled to yourself. You hummed a song you didn't remember the name of in your mind as you walked through the halls and down a couple of staircases that led to the dungeons. It was very simple, but calming, especially since there wasn't going to be a Chimaera running after you.
It was when you heard some indistinguishable yet aggressive voices that you knew the calm was over. What now? you grumbled and walked closer towards the voices since they came from the direction you were heading to. Is it really so much to ask to have one normal walk through the halls?! Just one n-
