"Your tone doesn't sound happy to see me. I'm hurt." Sirius' smirk had only wavered for an instant before returning to his usual demeanor. "I didn't know you played Quidditch, (l/n)."
"You know I don't." You turned around and continued walking towards the mass of Slytherins and Gryffindors with Sirius at your heel. "And answer my question."
"You must know already, I'm a beater for Gryffindor." He smiled with pride, tucking a loose strand of his hair that had fallen out of his low ponytail behind his ear. "I'm sure you haven't been able to take your eyes off of me during games."
"It all makes sense now! You must've hit your head hard with a Bludger, that would explain why you're so annoying," you exclaimed sarcastically, not bothering to look back at him.
Sirius scoffed. "You're no fun."
"And you're no fun to work on a project with, so I guess we're even."
He went silent, but of course, that wouldn't last long. "C'mon, (l/n)! You can't be that angry about that! And I've been trying to find you all day to talk about it!"
You turned on your heel abruptly and pointed your finger against his chest. "Listen, Black. I don't want to hear your excuses. You chose to avoid doing the project, and you know what? That's fine by me. It's perfect, actually. I'll do the potion, with or without you. So you can stop wasting my time bailing on every occasion and sit on your arse in your warm common room to laugh with your friends for all I care. I'm getting a good mark on this. You'll get a one-way ticket to detention for the rest of the year."
Sirius was stunned, his light eyes widened, and his mouth was slightly agape. You left him in his trance and joined the Slytherin side of the unfolding Quidditch argument.
"What the hell did you just say?! I dare you to repeat it." A Gryffindor you didn't know hissed. She was being held back by two of her teammates while Lucinda Talkalot—captain of the Slytherin Quidditch team— snickered with her arms crossed.
"You heard me the first time. I knew Gryffindors were short-fused but I didn't know they were short of hearing as well," she taunted.
You spotted Regulus tightening his fists with a killer scowl as he stared down the keeper who had previously grabbed onto him. You firmly grabbed onto his arm before he had the chance to act. "Don't do anything rash, that's below you."
He stared at you conflictingly before lightening his grip. "You know I hate that you're right?"
"Maybe, but you know what you'd hate even more? Letting their provocations get to you and wasting your time arguing with Gryffindors who can't be reasoned with. Don't stoop to their level."
Lucinda Talkalot sighed exasperated as she seemed to have overheard you. "Alright, let's go. These suckers need to practice more than us, anyways, if they want to stand a chance against us on the field this Inter-House Cup!"
Some members of the Slytherin team laughed as they headed past the Gryffindors, Regulus purposefully bumping shoulders against James Potter, who let out a loud scoff. You followed the team towards the changing rooms, sparing a glance behind you as red and gold cloaks took over the sky.
"You're more level-headed than me, and I'm the captain." A hand on your shoulder belonging to Lucinda Talkalot brought back your attention. "I owe you one."
"Nonsense." You shook your head. "You guys were in the right. They had no business in the pitch for another half hour."
She shrugged and entered the changing room with the other members. You lingered by the door until Regulus walked out a few minutes later. "You waited for me?"
