The smell of bacon, egg and chocolate was almost overpowering in the kitchen. (Y/N) was whisking the mud cake icing when (D/N) and (S/N) stepped into the threshold, each taking sits by the kitchen table slowly, eyeing their parents cautiously.

Ayato was reading the newspaper, dressed in his navy blue house robe and orange monkey slippers. He sipped on his coffee mug from time to time.

“Well good morning parentals.” (S/N) was the first to break the silence.

“Well good morning punks.” Ayato fired back.

He didn’t even look over his newspaper. He was still moody about the kids disturbing what might have been a bit of excitement in the bedroom in more than six months.

(Y/N) face palmed and set her mixing dish aside.

“Good morning, my little Fireflies.” She chirped maternally, sending her husband a pointed look as she served breakfast into two plates.

Placing it in front of (D/N) and (S/N), she kissed (S/N)’s soft cheeks affectionately and delicately smoothed out (D/N)’s hair. Her daughter seemed to hate motherly smothering as much she hated being seen in public with her parents.

“Eat up; I have the whole day planned out.” (Y/N) was brimming with excitement. This lockdown period was the perfect opportunity for family bonding time. She even baked everyone’s favourite cakes, or was in the process of baking it.

“Greeaat.” (D/N) dragged with a sarcastic dose of enthusiasm as plastic as her nails.

(S/N) didn’t make any show of reluctance; he was too busy stuffing his face with scrambled eggs.

The kitchen phone rang, grabbing everyone’s attention.

(Y/N) walked over and picked it up.

“Kirishima residence.”

“(Y/N)-sama is everything okay? I’ve been calling your phone all morning! How are the kids?!” Genna practically screamed.

(Y/N) flinched at the high pitched voice of her elder sister. She was always the worrisome one when it came to (Y/N)’s safety. And she had perfect reason for being so.

“We’re alright, I turned my phone off. I keep getting these awful articles about the virus being the first stage of the apocalypse. Ayato-kun says it’s all quote unquote, bullshit.”

“It is.” Ayato said defensively from where he was sitting.

(Y/N) stifled a sigh. Ayato thought anything on the media was a web of lie spun by the government as propaganda. In his defence it was because (Y/N) had hired contractors to build a high advanced bunker under the garage because she read online that the comet that killed the dinosaurs would be cycling into thr solar system again and would wipe out humanity, just like it did to the dinosaurs. Now they had a full proof bunker perfect for the comet apocalypse that never happened and a Y30,000 credit to pay off. So when it came to the media, Ayato was as tough as cinderblock.

“Well I’m glad you’re okay, I’ve been worried sick. Oh I do hope you’re all okay, just wait it out at home.” Genna sounded like she was on the verge of tears.

“That’s the plan Gemma-san. Don’t worry too much, we’re safe. How are the twins and my Namey?”  (Y/N) asked.

Her sister had three children. The first one name (Y/N), after her, and a set of twins. They lived in America, thank goodness for that, otherwise (Y/N) would be the one worried sick.

“Oh they’re alright. (Y/N) is settling in well with John and the twins are still away in college. House is pretty empty but it’s not so bad. It just feels weird so quiet.”

“That’s understandable. We’ll come in December, spend the holidays with everyone. It’ll be nice with everyone all in one place.” (Y/N) smiled at the thought. Family was everything to her.

Genna squealed ecstatically.

“That would be so amazing! But right now you guys stay safe and in doors okay?”

“Yes yes, we will be fine. You stay safe too sis.”

(Y/N) ended the call after a few more minutes of just slight catching up. She turned and blinked, startled that the kitchen was empty and so were the plates and Ayato’s coffee mug. She glanced down into the living room and saw everyone settled in the living room. Ayato was having a rematch with (S/N) and (D/N) was sleeping on the armchair, fingers pressing the screen of her phone at an insane speed.

How long was she on the phone with Genna?

She left them with their gadgets and went back to baking. She had called the whole tribe the night before.

Touka and Kaneki and the family would all be at home, safe. Nishiki saw this as an opportunity to sleep and just laze around. In summary, everyone would just stay at home for the whole lockdown.

She stifled down the thought of calling Cho and Aito, they would both be busy anyway and a call from her would distract their work.

Finally after two hours of baking, she had prepared everyone’s favourite treats. Three whole jars of delicious cookies, (F/C), custard tart, blueberry pie and blueberry muffins, cheesecake, orea cheesecake and all sorts of high calorie food. After laying them all out on the kitchen table she stepped back and smiled, tucking back loose strands of her hair behind her ears.

She went to retrieve the family board games.

Walking into the living room, (Y/N) noticed everyone was exactly where they were two hours ago.

Ayato was leaning forward clutching the console a bit too tightly, (S/N) was more relaxed and leaning back but they both had the same concentrating look in their blue orbs, the same furrowing of their brows and the same jaw tightening movement when one of them died. (D/N) was still texting, (H/C) orbs concentrated.

(Y/N) dropped the stacks of games on the small table in front of the TV, making sure the sound was eminent. She frowned when that did not garner any form of attention even though the volume of the game wasn’t so high.

She cleared her throat conspicuously.

Nothing. Not even a glance.

She cleared her throat louder this time.

Same response; nothing.

This was ridiculous.

Tea would help her nerves. She walked into the kitchen and made herself some tea. Then she walked back out, sipping on it like a Queen, observing the peasants so overruled by technology.

Clearing her throat louder this time, she glared at everyone. Last chance.

These ignorant fools, she thought melodramatically, so invested in their gadgets.

She walked over to the main adapter that had the hotspot router, the Play Station plug in and the TV’s as well.

Giving them some time to save themselves, she stood there eyeing them. After a while it became obvious she had to take matters into her own hands.

She switched it off and sipped her tea, listening to the sweet harmony of all their groans and cries of objection in unison as if it were a classic symphony.

“MOTHER YOU HAVE ENDED MY LIFE FORCE.” (D/N) dramatically slumped lifelessly on her chair.

“Dammit! Tsk at least I won.” Ayato leaned back relaxingly.

“Oh come on, my K/D was higher dad.” (S/N) narrowed his electrifying orbs.

“Oh yeah? Where’s your proof.” Ayato smirked.

(S/N)’s eyes widened in realization; the game went off meaning it wasn’t saved meaning that whole game was for nothing.

“MOOOOM!” (S/N) cried out in horror.

She sipped more tea.
