The 26th Dialogue

With Gordon, it was very sudden, wasn't it? Out of the blue. On instinct. Quick.

Is this going to be the same?

No. It can't be the same. With Gordon, I never really planned ahead. I just decided on the spur of the moment, right then and there, that he deserved to die. And the knife was almost glaring at me on the table; I hadn't set the scene, the scene had already been set for me. It was too easy. Almost like I was meant to kill him.

Don't you feel like you're meant for this murder too?

In a different sense, yes. With Gordon, there was none of this plotting, this planning, this over-thinking. I didn't even talk with you beforehand, I came to you after I finished the job. Like I said, I just decided right then.

Gordon was just a nobody. He was a sad, ignored little orphan. Not much attention was drawn to him when he was alive, not even after he died. But you realize your target this time is no Gordon Hastings, right?

Yeah. It's going to be a lot harder. Plus, you know what? If things go well, I wouldn't even have to pull the trigger.

You'll just use the gun for show? Just a little threatening?

Yeah, exactly, just a little threatening. That's the thing with guns, isn't it, you don't have to pull the trigger to make it scary, just the sight of it is enough to make them shudder, and bow down to your command.

Well. You know. Don't make promises you can't keep.

What do you mean? What promise?

I don't mean a promise exactly, I mean, you say you might not have to kill, but it's really the moment that decides it. Don't go in there prepared for one outcome and one outcome only. It can go the other way too. You might get over-confident and feel like the gun is nothing more than just an accessory, and before you know it, you're pulling the trigger.

The fuck is this, now you want me to murder all of a sudden?

No, I want you to not cry over spilt blood. I want you to be able to grimly accept it, because you prepared for it.

I assure you there won't be any crying. A little laughing, perhaps.

Come on. Really?

Hey, everyone's a little sick inside, remember?
