After arriving back from the expedition, the few soldiers that came home went on with their own business, all in silence. There was an awkward tension between the scouts. The cadets showered, ate, then went to bed after a long and emotionally and physically draining day. Levi and Hange however, didn't.

They were tired, but unable to sleep. they also didn't speak to each other and the cadets unless necessary. It was them who suffered a tragic loss today, and everybody in the building knew better than to approach them.

It was especially hard for Hange that day, considering that she had also lost her best friend, her rock: Moblit. He saved her from Bertholdt's transformation and she felt guilty and upset. She didn't know what to do. She stood in their room and couldn't help but remember the good times that occurred there. The experiments, the research, and just the fun in general. He was always there for her and always had her back, even until the very end.

Trying to grieve from that itself was extremely hard and made her feel like absolute shit. Not only that, but she had to move on from the loss of the commander, Erwin, too. Hange didn't know where to even start. She felt flustered, angry, upset, confused, and hurt. But she was mostly angry. Looking at her empty room made her angry. And everyone knew how Hange got when she was angry.

She was scary. and she became extremely violent. She kicked over the chairs in the room and started hitting the wall. She kept going like that and just made a mess of the room, not that it wasn't a mess in the first place. But now it was just... broken. Everything in it was broken. She had even ripped up and discarded the papers regarding the data and research of the titan experiments she had conducted on Eren, Sawney, and Bean. Science was her passion, but her love belonged to her now deceased friends.

"Why? Why now? Why, why, why?!", she screamed in frustration. "Why would you do that for me? Moblit, Erwin, how could you leave me?", her voice became quiet as sobs escaped her mouth, slowly becoming louder, and eventually drowning out the room.

Levi immediately went to his room and took a nice, long, hot shower after everything that had happened. He needed it. Erwin was one of the only people that he's ever trusted. And he trusts very few people. Erwin recruited him into the Survey Corps and over time, Levi's hatred for him started to turn into trust. He thought about all that happened between them while scrubbing his body clean. He got out of the shower, dried himself off, and cleaned while pouring himself a cup of tea. He desperately needed to get his mind off of what had just happened that day. It helped. Even if it was just a little.

Afterwards, Levi couldn't help but wonder how Hange was dealing with all of this. He couldn't shake off his curiosity and began walking towards her room. Hange was the only person he had left. She was the only person that he knew he could trust. He couldn't afford to lose her either.

As he got closer to her room, he heard all the ruckus she was making. Smashes and screams and muffled sobbing. It was all there. He rushed into her room and found her on the floor sobbing. Levi looked into her room in disgust.

Hange finally noticed him at her doorway and looked at him, then put on a smile, "Hey, I didn't see you there.", taking a pause to look at her room, she turned back to him and continued, "Oh yeah, haha, I kinda made a mess. Sorry about that." She rubbed the back of her neck with her palm and flashed him an innocent look with a toothy grin.

He stared at her in disbelief and stood there as silence and awkwardness enveloped them. The atmosphere was tense. It wasn't until Hange spotted something Erwin had given her across the room that she started sobbing again, breaking the uncomfortable silence. She was in a very fragile state.

What the fuck. This idiot. She's a mess. She hasn't showered, changed, and she even turned her room into a mess.

He couldn't blame her though. Everything she was feeling was coursing through his veins too. He was just better at separating his actions from his feelings.

Hange broke Levi out of his trance when she said, "This is all my fault. Moblit's dead because of me. It should've been me. He shouldn't have died. I couldn't do anything to help Erwin. Why? Why did this have to happen? Wh-", and she kept rambling to herself until Levi had enough, and embraced her in his arms. He couldn't stand to see his friend blame herself like this.

Hange stopped and looked at him in disbelief, as the man wasn't big on affection. She slowly hugged him back, realizing how desperately she needed someone to rely on.

"You know, it's okay to cry too.", Hange said hesitantly, "I'm here for you too. You can rely on me too, Levi.", her voice filled with seriousness and sincerity.

He didn't know how to react, not because she said something so affectionate, so blatantly, but because he knew that what she was saying was true, and he also wanted so desperately to rely on someone other than himself. He just wanted to let all his frustration and sadness out.

Levi decided to give in, after having to be so strong for so long, losing so many people in his life. People can die at any time, and today was proof of that. He wanted to be able to cherish his life with his final friend before time was up for either one of them. Honestly, he was also tired of bottling everything up and coping alone. He was so exhausted.

Levi cried into Hange's shoulder, burying his face in the crook of her neck. He didn't want her to see him as vulnerable as he was right now. It was no surprise that she was surprised. She smiled a little before saying, "Soft as you are short, aren't you Levi?"

She giggled at first, then started laughing maniacally like the maniac she was. Levi didn't mind though. What she said actually lightened up the mood a bit and he pulled away from her laughing and crying at the same time. She was in utter shock seeing him display so much emotion at once. It was also the first time she's seen Levi cry. (note: it's actually canon that Hange's the only person that's ever seen Levi cry :00)

Seeing him cry like that brought tears to her eyes once again and they sat there in Hange's filthy room for hours, just sobbing their hearts out. Hange's room was the epitome of filth, but right then and there, Levi didn't seem to mind one bit.
