Adelaide POV
it was the next day and the sisters had all crowded in Daphnes room
"You absolutely sparkled, Sister." Eloise stated and I smiled as i pulled my hair down from the bun that it had been placed in
"Come, now. I merely simpered and minced in a pretty dress like everyone else." Daphne stated with a proud smirk on her face clearly she knew how good she had done hell imagine getting a praise from the queen
"Not exactly like everyone else." I snickered remembering the red haired sisters embarrassing entrance she turned to give me a playful glare
"Oh, I shall need to go and visit with Penelope. Her presentation was anything but... What was it the queen called you again?" Eloise said letting out sigh
"Flawless" Daphne said proudly "Trust I was astonished Her Majesty offered me, out of 200 young ladies present, a most gracious remark."
"Yes, it was quite a distinction. And now 200 young ladies have a common adversary." I laughed at Eloises remark
"Eloise!" Daphne scolded
"What? It is true." I states standing up for Eloise who gave me a salute in her chair
"My success on the marriage mart influences all of your prospects. We will all need to find love one day. Indeed, a love as pure as what Mama and Papa once shared, if we are so fortunate. I merely hope I am able to continue such a grand tradition." Daphne stated turning serious and it was only then that I saw Eloises face drop into a look of seriousness before another word could be spoken Lady Bridgertons voice boomed through the doors
"Your dresses have arrived." she sang in happiness as we all got up and ran towards her
"This one is especially for Adelaide it will look beautiful with your skin tone" Lady Bridgerton said holding up a beautiful white partnered dress I sighed
"Why are all my dresses white?" I say
"Because mother believes you're the pure golden child" Eloise snickers looking at the dress Lady Brigerton rolled her eyes
"Daphne this one is yours" she says holding out another beautiful dress towards her
"Mary Edgecombe wore a similar shade last season. And secured three offers the very next day, one from an earl." Daphne said with the biggest smile on her face
"Mary Edgecombe, now the Countess of Fulton, apparently spent the last year living in a cottage hundreds of miles away from her earl.She is miserable. It says it all here." Eloise says holding up a newspaper
"Do not tell me that is yet another scandal sheet. Eloise..." I say laughing but she turns on me with a serious look
"No, no, this one is different.This one lists subjects by name, in full." she says holding it towards me I grab it out of her hand
"Lady Whistledown?" I question but before I can see anymore Daphne grabs it out of my hand
"What does it say, dearest?" Lady Bridgerton says to Daphne who covers her smile with her hand
"Though the season's Incomparable seems to be Daphne Bridgerton no man could help but notice newly orphaned Adelaide Waters whose season will come the year after next. The beautiful girl left halfway through the seasons opening, maybe she already has someone to meet in secret" Daphne says reading Lady Whistledowns words I feel my face morph into disgust
