A young child, yet to be born, was in a risk of dying before the light could even meet their eyes— oh, the world was cruel. Far too cruel. Even taking away her only panel of support, her own husband; Dina Fritz was having it bad.

The moment her son, Zeke, pointed a finger towards his own father; the moment her life collapsed into ruins— was also the moment she realized she was a few weeks pregnant with her second child.

And Grisha Yeager wouldn't be able to see the day of his own child's birth.

Now miserably seated against the headboard of her empty queen sized bed, she watched with dull eyes as her eldest son, Zeke, played on the carpet of the floor, holding a monkey figurine.

It was a child's innocence. It was their fault for having pressured him into their own ideologies. It was simply unfair for him. And with the reasons laid out, Dina couldn't force herself to hate her son. In fact, she can't blame him.

Doing things such as protecting his own grandparents in spite of their own corruption, Zeke had decided for himself. Shouldn't she be proud that he was living free on his own choices?

Dina still felt a void place in her heart though, she had dedicated all her love to her husband who she cares very deeply for. No one could ever replace him. No one. Not even Zeke or the child that was to be birthed.

But that didn't hold her back from being a mother (or she liked to think). She cares for her own children, just in another sophisticated way.

Suddenly, pressure was applied on the deep end of her stomach, and because of the sudden feeling of pain, she groaned in despair and went to clasp the sheets with her fisted hands. It was unbearable.

Was she finally going under labor? It's been 9 months already, so it was only reasonable to presume.

"Zeke, call in the doctors, please." She begged her son who looked up with wide eyes. He then proceeded to rush towards their telephone and dialed the hospital.

He was well aware of his mother's soon delivery of his new sibling. And while he was still unfamiliar with the thought of having a brother or a sister, he was willing to help in any way he can.

After a few while that felt like growing hours, doctors finally arrived in her room and assisted her with her birthing, instructing her on what to do. Though she was clearly familiar seeing as this was not her first time.

Zeke patiently waited behind the door, but hearing his mother's painful screams scared him. Was he going to lose his mother too? Was this leading her to her inevitable death? With the thoughts running furiously in his head, he couldn't help but claw his palms.

He waited.

Waited.

And waited.

Until there it was, the sound of the cry of a newborn baby.

Zeke brightened up, why was the voice so comforting? Was this the sound of his new sibling? The door opened and he was allowed to enter now seeing as the doctors will be taking their leave.

As soon as his eyes landed on the baby cradled in his tired mother's arms. He grew afraid. Afraid to accidentally hurt the young infant— looking so frail and vulnerable.

"Zeke," Dina finally smiled after months of being gloomy.

He was frozen for a while, astounded. He had forgotten what she looked like when she smiled, he had forgotten how much comfort and validation it had brought him when he was merely a toddler.

It was a new sight for the young boy. And somehow, it was greatly refreshing. "Meet your new brother, M/n. . . M/n Yeager."

"M/n. . ." Zeke repeated in a tone barely above a whisper. He then took closer steps as he looked at the baby's face.

Blonde hair, delicate features— he seems to have the Fritz bloodline pulsing through his veins. He looked so similar to their mother.

As Zeke stuck out his pointer finger in front of the baby's face to caress his cheek gently, the baby suddenly opened his eyes and innocently held the finger closer with a small faint smile.

Green eyes.

Such lively green eyes.

It melted Zeke's heart as he loosened up and eased at his brother's presence. How is he so precious? Were all babies like this?

Dina chuckled as Zeke suddenly looked up at her with surprised eyes. It's been so long since he last heard her laugh.

"Such a smart and intelligent young boy. . . He takes after you and Grisha." Dina told. Zeke flinched at the name that he didn't expect to hear so soon, but nonetheless, he nodded along for his mother's happiness.

"You can say."

Was this a new sign of a beginning? A beginning where it's only him, his grandparents, his mother, and his newborn brother? Hopefully, because he was starting to like this fulfilled feeling.
