The following week the boys had already started practice and Akari was nowhere to be found. Tendou couldn’t help but frown at the thought of her giving up because of Ushijimas behaviour while Goshiki was rather confused as to where his loud neighbour was. Goshiki knew for a fact that Akari wouldn’t give up this early, now that she had a small crush on their captain for Akari was one of the most determined people he knew.

A little while later Akari walked into the gym holding a rather large box of chocolate and a wide grin. “I’m here!” she announced her arrival making a face to the coach who groaned when she spoke. Tendou and Goshiki let out a gasp of amazement seeing the large box of chocolate she had trouble holding seeing as though it was bigger than her face. Goshiki attempted to grab the box of sweet delights from her grasp and she shook her body to get rid of his grasp and as she managed to hold the box in one hand, she used the other to smack Goshiki on the back of his head. Tendou let out a nervous laugh walking back not bothering to try after seeing her glare at the boys who eyed her box like predators.

The two most enthusiastic boys continued to ask her where she got the chocolates making her raise her head up with pride. “Well, if you must know I received these from a boy who just confessed how much he likes me but don’t worry Ushi darling I said no just for you.” She gave a coy smile to the giant who managed to give her a small glance. She skipped towards him holding out the box of chocolate. Ushijima looked down to the box and she pushed it further in his direction as a gesture for him to take it.

“Here you can have it.” She gave him a soft smile her rosy cheeks lifting in the process. Ushijima noticed that her cheeks were slightly red and assumed that it was because she had ran in the cold to get here but in reality his gaze was stronger than she had ever experienced making her feel flustered. Akari used handing him the chocolates to her advantage giving his large hands a small squeeze.

She began to walk away before letting out a small gasp remembering what she had forgotten to do. She turned to Ushijima who was looking at the chocolates in his hands. When he looked up feeling her gaze, she gave him a cheeky smile and he knew she was going to say yet another pick up line. “If I serve you my heart will you give me yours in return?” she laughed giving some finger hearts. “No. I need my heart.” He sighed at the cheesy lines which didn’t really make sense.

Akari rolled her eyes ready to leave again, the smile never leaving her face, “Bye, bye babes and kids.” She bid her goodbye popping her head from around the door to remind Goshiki to text her when he reached home. Tendou asked the young boy why she was already leaving seeing as though she would usually stay till the end helping the boys tidy up due to their tired states.

“Her dad will be coming home early for once so she will be spending time with him.” He informed the others rolling his eyes. “What’s with the eye roll.” Semi asked with a slight chuckle surprised to see the boy look so annoyed despite his slightly rude attitude. “I just don’t like Akari father that’s all.”

He shrugged it off  like it was nothing, but the others gestured for him to continue. “All Akari wants since she was a child was her fathers attention you know because he is all she has, but the man can’t even take a day off to spend it with her therefore she is always at mine.” Goshiki rolled his eyes once again as though he was annoyed by the fact, she was always over but it was over the existence of the hated man.

He wasn’t wrong Akira had craved her father’s attention ever since she was little, her mother’s death had taken a tole on her. Akira would do everything possible, getting the best grades, getting in trouble to get his attention but he didn’t seem to care working almost every day of the year to provide for his daughter. The only thing Akira wanted was to spend time with him. Goshiki found himself finding Akira like an older sister due to the amount of time she spent at his home as well as the way she would look after him and argue over the smallest things with him.

The others including Ushijima couldn’t help feeling bad for the girl who seemed ever so cheerful. There was a moment of silence before Tendo turned to Ushijima with a sneaky grin asking him if he could have some chocolate too. Throughout practice and even after returning to the dorms Tendo couldn’t help but notice the small yet evident frown on Ushijima face.

“What’s wrong miracle boy?” he asked as things could barely affect the younger boy forget upset him. “I just feel bad for Akira that’s all I know what missing your father is like.” He spoke rather stoically but meant every word. “Is that all?” Tendo sang in a teasing manner. “Yes.” He answered before turning his back on Tendo and going to sleep.
