There had been no warning.

It was nearly surreal, it all happened so quickly, almost as if it were straight out of a horror movie.

The feelings of fear, regret, terror, the adrenaline coursing through your veins, the shock that nearly made your heart pound out of your chest . . .

Somewhat like a surprise party gone wrong.

How many times had you walked down that dark, unlit alleyway during your usual route to work?

One too many, apparently.

Although the event had only taken place about an hour or so ago, you could remember it all so vividly, as if it were a nightmare that had been etched deep into your very mind.

' You had been walking your normal path while commuting to work, with nothing but the pale-blue rays of moonlight, your phone, and the occasional streetlamp to light your way, shining dimly in the black abyss that was the night sky.

T'was so early that not even the earliest of early birds would chirp, and the forest that partly encompassed your place of residence had been taken over by a sense of tranquility. A majority of the animals were resting, excluding the ever-working ants and nature's musicians, crickets. They produced a soft hum that could be faintly heard if one stood close enough to the bushes, playing their underappreciated melodies.

Your phone cast a gentle white glow across your face, complementing your features pleasantly, though no one had been around to see it.

Or so you thought.

Entering the password for your device, smiled softly as you opened Messenger and scrolled through it, browsing though the long list of names before coming across the newest addition to your contacts.

Error.

Long ago, you remebered purchasing him a phone, though you forgot to give it to him until recently. Surprisingly enough, he already seemed to know the basics when it came to handling such a device, perhaps he had one before he arrived in your backyard.

He clearly hadn't used it all too much, however, considering how you had to teach him that it had other functions besides the camera, but at least he knew how to unlock the thing.

You soon decided to shoot him a quick text message before you arrived at your destination and would have to set aside the device for quite some time, you already missed him, and it would help him practice using the keyboard anyways.

You smiled softly, about to put your phone away and walk without further distraction, not expecting a reply. It was, after all, still a long time before the sun would be out, a time at which most people were still deep asleep. Before you could do so, however, your device vibrated, indicating you had already gotten a response.
