As I sat in the living room of my Papa's mansion, I couldn't help but wonder how Enzo got shot.

When I picked him up from the park, he told me that my father had sent him to do some recon on a drug cartel that he found info on.

He got spotted by one of the guards that was meant to be on his break so he bolted but got shot as he ran. I knew Enzo, and he would've timed this perfectly. Someone clearly ratted him out.

Enzo made me take him to the mafia house where there was a doctor waiting with a stretcher. They took him into surgery immediately. He had taken a nap due to the painkillers so he probably didn't want to argue with me about not going to the ball.

I decided to wander around and rid my head of the thoughts that came by. I noticed the clock on the wall which read out 4:00pm.

I frowned.

The ball was soon and I wasn't ready. The ball didn't scare me. It was the people who were coming. Mafiosos, drug kingpins, other assassins. It was one moment of peace after everything they went through.

"Mija, I thought you weren't coming till later." a voice said softly.

"Enzo got into some trouble and I had to bring him here. ¿Como estas Mami?"  I said, turning to smile at her.
[translation: how are you mom?]

I hadn't been able to spend any time with her like I did with my father but soon that would change.

"Estoy bien, baby. Have you got a dress for the ball?" [translation: I'm fine]

Shit, it completely slipped my mind.

"No actually I don't. I was so busy today, I kind of forgot."

"That's okay, I think I have some dresses that will fit you. Is that okay with you?"

"That's perfect, Mami. Gracias."
[translation: thank you]

I hugged her and she led me to their wing of the house. A queen sized sat in the middle, and two walk-in closets were opposite the foot of it.

She opened the door to the closet and my eyes widened at the amount of clothing items that were in there. I took the left side and she took the right as we searched for the perfect dress.

She held up a black one with a deep neckline and a flowy bottom. I shook my head.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a flash of dark red. I turned to look at it and saw the most beautiful ball gown I had ever seen.

"This one. I think this is the one."

"I just don't think it's safe. If they are at the ball and they recognise Enzo, they could decide to kill him on the spot."

"They don't allow weapons inside. This is a public and safe event with many guards and scanners before we enter."  Papa said.

I put my hand on my leg to prevent it from moving up and down. I was nervous.

"Fine, but are you sure you'll be okay with the stitches? If anything happens, his stitches could split. "

I turned to Enzo who was already dressed in his tux.

"Don't worry tesoro. I'll be okay."  he replied, smirking at me.

Papa narrowed his eyes at him then said okay to the plan.

"Lucía, did your mother give you a dress?"

"Yeah she did. I thanked her already."

He hummed and smiled at me.
