Kill the king and throne the queen. Joking. Kinda.

"I thought we agreed not to tell her until we both fell?" Enzo said, clearing his throat.

"She found out herself. Besides she would've found out eventually." Papa replied.

"What if I don't want to do it?" I chimed in.

"Out of the question." They both glared at me.

"As much as I'm enjoying this little chat, I'm going to leave. You two clearly didn't think this contract through so I'll let you two figure it out. I'm not getting married to the Don of the Mexican Mafia, even though you aren't the largest mafia there."

"Would you rather be married to Arthur Hernandez?"

"Obviously not, but-"

"Lucía, let Enzo and I discuss this. We'll come to some sort of conclusion."

"About who I end up with in a few years or so? No thanks, I'd rather decide that for myself."

"Lucía-"

"Besides, aren't I the heir to the Cortez Mafia? So if I was to marry Enzo, one of us would have to step down from don. And I doubt that Enzo wants to do that but neither do I. Did either of you think about that?"

"We just assumed-"

"Exactly, you assumed. You assumed I would oblige to this and not become the Donna of the Italian Mafia."

"Mija, how about that relaxing day you suggested?"  My mom said in an attempt to calm me down.

I clenched my jaw and gritted my teeth.

"Yeah, mom. That sounds great. But first," I said as I got up from my seat, "if either of you decide anything without me about my future, I will snap both of your necks."

I glared at them both, then Mami and I took our leave. She told me to go get ready so I went up to my room where I found a Jack Daniels bottle, new and unopened.

I sat on the corner of my bed after dressing up, and I stared at the bottle for a good couple of minutes. Finally, I stood and grabbed the bottle. I opened it and took a swig of the amber liquid before throwing the bottle at the wall to the left of me.

It shattered into pieces then I walked out of the room, swinging my bomber jacket over my shoulder.

"What was that noise?" Mama said as I descended the stairs towards her.

"No idea." I replied, shrugging at her.

"Alright, let's go then."

"I remember when you were little; you used to go into your father's office and see if he was drinking anything, even if it was alcohol. Then you would run to the kitchen and grab yourself a glass of juice or water. You would dash into his office as fast as you could without spilling anything and ask him to toast with you and say 'Salud'." Mama told me as she laughed at the memory.

I laughed along with her, the thoughts of little me begging to toast with my father making me feel all warm inside.

"Abuela used to tell me about you all the time. She would mention how much of a troublemaker you were and how many times you brought Papa home just so that Abuelo would approve. Finally, Abuelo approved of him and Papa was so happy that he kissed you right in front of them." I told her as she also laughed at the memories.

Mami and I had decided to get out nails done, so we went to the mall and found a nice nail salon. I got a matte burgundy gel set whilst Mama got a beautiful blue set.
